Quang Ninh province has over 250km of coastline, more than 6,000km² of sea surface area, and over 1,000km² of island area. The province includes coastal archipelagos, among which Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay are natural treasures… Therefore, in recent years, the province has implemented many solutions to develop the potential and advantages of marine and island tourism in the area.
From the beginning of 2025, Quang Ninh's coastal and island tourism has been bustling with the arrival of luxury cruise ships bringing thousands of international cruise passengers. Notably, on the morning of January 17th, Ha Long International Cruise Port simultaneously welcomed two international cruise ships, the Seabourn Encore and Silver Whisper, bringing over 1,200 tourists to experience and explore the nature, land, and people of Quang Ninh.
For many years now, coastal and island tourism in the province has always attracted tourists to visit and experience. To support the development of marine and island tourism, in 2024, the Provincial People's Council issued a resolution on supporting tourism development through Van Don International Airport and cruise tourism to Quang Ninh.
The province's marine tourism development space continues to expand across four regions, with Ha Long Bay - Bai Tu Long Bay as the main marine tourism cluster, linked to marine and island tourism products in Van Don, Co To, and Mong Cai, and connected to a system of attractive tourist areas, routes, destinations, and tourist cities.
To capitalize on the strengths of coastal and island tourism, the province is calling for and attracting businesses, organizations, and individuals to invest in building a system of hotels and unique, diverse, and internationally-standardized resorts. In addition to hotels and resorts in coastal localities, the province also has 2 three-star cruise ships with 105 rooms, 54 two-star cruise ships with 1,073 rooms, 29 one-star cruise ships with 250 rooms, and 12 cruise ships meeting minimum standards with 91 rooms.
In addition, the system of passenger ports and wharves connecting to the islands has been completed and synchronized, such as: Ha Long International Passenger Port, Tuan Chau International Passenger Port (Ha Long City), Cai Rong Port, Ao Tien Port (Van Don)... This further contributes to promoting the development of tourist boat systems in Ha Long Bay, Van Don, and Co To towards a modern, safe, and high-quality direction, especially the fleet of overnight cruise ships.
To make coastal and island tourism in the province increasingly attractive to tourists, the province also focuses on developing tourism products. Among the nearly 70 tourism products put into operation and serving tourists in the province, there are many new coastal and island tourism products in Ha Long Bay, Van Don, Co To, Hai Ha, Dam Ha, etc. In mid-2024, Quang Ninh announced tour itineraries in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, including 8 itineraries in Ha Long Bay, 10 in Bai Tu Long Bay, and 3 connecting itineraries between Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay. This is the direction for developing tourist destinations and coastal and island tourism products in the province in the coming time.
Some of the province's tourism products are highly competitive, diverse, iconic, and distinctive. These include the "Night Cruise Street" tour along the shores of Ha Long Bay at the Ha Long International Cruise Port, featuring a system of high-quality, modern cruise ships and restaurants that meet the needs of both domestic and international tourists, and which has been highly praised by many visitors.

Ms. Pham Thu Nga (Me Tri Ha area, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi) said: "My friends and I organized a trip to Ha Long City, which included a cruise to admire the scenery of Ha Long Bay, while listening to music and enjoying the characteristic cuisine of Quang Ninh. The members of our group and I were very impressed by the well-organized arrangements; the staff on board were very enthusiastic in welcoming and serving guests; and the boarding and disembarking of the cruise ship was convenient thanks to the beautiful and modern port system."
The Cruise Night Market is a cultural tourism product that has been operating since 2022 at Ha Long International Cruise Port. Operating from 5 PM to 11 PM daily, the Cruise Night Market brings together nearly 30 4-5 star ships, taking tourists on a cruise to explore the coastal city of Ha Long at night, admire famous landmarks and structures, and enjoy unique cultural and artistic experiences right on board the ships throughout the journey.
In 2025, Quang Ninh will continue to implement comprehensive and decisive solutions to promote the development of marine and island tourism and services, with a focus on attracting and developing the cruise tourism market. The province will diversify tourism forms and products, improve the quality and competitiveness of tourism services, especially high-end resort tourism, high-quality marine and island tourism, and nighttime tourism and services, both onshore and in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay, to make Quang Ninh an attractive year-round destination.
