Souvenir products at tourist destinations are not simply items to commemorate a visitor's trip, but also a tool for promoting the local image. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Phong, a tourist from Hue City, said, "I've been away from my hometown for nearly 20 years, and every time I return, I often look for souvenirs that reflect the charm of my homeland, the mountainous region of An Son and the Tra River. In 2023, thanks to a friend working at a media agency in Quang Ngai province, I learned that my hometown has many lovely souvenirs with unique characteristics. But I like the brocade products from Lang Teng village, Ba Thanh commune (Ba To district) the most. Not only my family, but also my friends and business partners really appreciate these handcrafted brocade products, especially ties, tablecloths, notebooks, scarves, and dresses." Some of my partners, when they have the opportunity to pass through Quang Ngai, also seek out Lang Teng village to buy products and experience the traditional brocade weaving craft of the Hre people.

Textile products from Teng Village are increasingly popular with tourists due to their uniqueness, distinctiveness, and beautiful, diverse designs that are not mass-produced. In particular, ties and scarves made in Teng Village have achieved a 4-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) rating at the provincial level.

Ms. Pham Thi Y Hoa, who played a major role in bringing Teng Village's brocade products to market, shared that the value of Teng Village's brocade products lies not only in their simple and charming souvenirs but also in their representation of the unique cultural identity of the Hre ethnic group. Therefore, in addition to preserving the traditional weaving method (embroidery), she meticulously attends to every stitch and detail, carefully coordinating colors and patterns to create novel, unique, and distinctive products. "In 2024, my workshop sold over 2,000 products of various kinds, most notably brocade ties, scarves, and dresses. Besides that, Teng Village's brocade products have also been selected by the province as gifts for diplomatic purposes in many countries around the world ," Ms. Y Hoa shared.

According to the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, souvenir products not only bring economic value but are also considered "tourism ambassadors" because they help tourists always remember the destination and the land they have visited and experienced. From there, they spread the image of Quang Ngai's land and people to friends both domestically and internationally. To make souvenirs attractive and retain tourists, the products must reflect the culture, unique characteristics, and traditions of the tourist region, but the selling price should not be too expensive.

Besides buying souvenirs, many tourists also often buy natural products, agricultural specialties, and OCOP (One Commune One Product) products from local areas to use at home or as gifts for relatives and friends.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, developing tourism in conjunction with promoting the production and business of souvenirs, agricultural products, specialties, and OCOP products will contribute to promoting the culture and image of localities and developing the community economy. Responding to the needs of tourists, in recent times, production and business establishments and artisans in some craft villages in the province have focused on producing many high-quality gift products that reflect the unique cultural identity of the locality. Some products are unique and attractive thanks to the combination of cultural identity with modern consumer trends, such as: sticky rice malt, crispy rice with Tra River goby fish, Quang Ngai malt with malt syrup, Tra River goby fish crackers...

During the Quang Ngai Tourism Week 2025, held from April 11-17, in addition to souvenir gifts selected for delegates and displayed at the event venues, 16 OCOP products with 3-4 stars and potential 5-star ratings from the province were introduced and sold in the central lobby area of Co.opmart Quang Ngai supermarket.

Mr. Do Tien Hoang, a tourist from Son La province, expressed that besides famous landmarks and unique cuisine, souvenirs are one of the "flavors" that linger in the minds of tourists after their trips. Therefore, souvenirs are a way for localities to attract tourists to visit and return. However, instead of elaborate items, it is necessary to research unique, impressive souvenirs that are distinctive, but small and compact so that tourists can easily keep and take them home to give to relatives and friends. For example, keychains shaped like onions or garlic - characteristic of Ly Son; woven scarves depicting the Tra Khuc Bridge, Mount An, the Tra River, and Ly Son Island; or a collection of keychains featuring famous tourist destinations and specialties of Quang Ngai.

In fact, souvenir products stimulate tourist spending, contributing to increased tourism revenue. Therefore, souvenir products need comprehensive investment and a unique identity to meet the quality and aesthetic demands of tourists.

To tap into the untapped potential of the souvenir sector, in the coming time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will coordinate with other departments, agencies, and localities to support souvenir production and business establishments in improving quality and creativity in design, especially by incorporating local cultural elements into souvenir products. At the same time, the tourism industry will focus on researching and developing products that both serve as a brand identity for the local tourism industry and contribute to the promotion and advertising of the province's tourism.
