The Literature exam has a time limit of 120 minutes. This is the only essay-based exam in the entire examination and uses materials outside of the textbook. The use of open-ended materials is considered appropriate for developing competencies, helping to reduce rote memorization of model essays, encouraging independent thinking, reading comprehension, and the application of knowledge among students.

After the exam, reporters and correspondents at the examination sites observed that most candidates felt confident and excited after completing the first subject. This year's Literature exam was of appropriate difficulty for the candidates, and the knowledge covered had been thoroughly reviewed by their teachers.

In particular, according to the assessment of most candidates, parents, and teachers, the inclusion of many topical issues relevant to young people, such as "the application of artificial intelligence," "entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, and the application of science and technology," in the exam questions created favorable conditions for candidates to better understand and demonstrate their knowledge and argumentative skills.

Candidate Hoang Thi Hoai Thuong, a 12th-grade student from the Quang Ninh Provincial Ethnic Boarding Secondary and High School, shared: "When studying Literature, I always avoid rote learning because I believe that studying literature requires understanding the essence of the issues, learning from the roots, and developing skills. Therefore, in addition to studying the knowledge and skills taught and reviewed by my teachers, I have read many books and researched more to broaden my literary abilities. With that preparation, I consider this year's Literature exam to be very good. The social commentary section is highly topical and relevant to the issues we encounter and experience daily. Each student will have a different way of arguing, but as long as it is logical, persuasive, and coherent, many will score high marks."

Regarding the literary analysis section, candidates had varying opinions on their interpretations of the excerpt from Nguyen Dinh Thi's poem "The Leaves." However, most candidates had received thorough preparation guidance from their teachers, and with focused studying, they could have achieved a satisfactory score.

Candidate Nguyen Ha Phuong Thao, a 12th-grade Literature student from Ha Long Specialized High School, said: "As someone who loves literature, I really enjoyed the excerpt from Nguyen Dinh Thi's poem 'The Leaves.' The excerpt left me with many thoughts and connections about the journey of life and the contributions each person makes. I think I did well on the exam to the best of my ability and I hope to get a high score."

According to a preliminary report from the Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training's Examination Council, 20,495 candidates participated in the Literature exam, representing a participation rate of 99.18%. 168 candidates were absent (including 54 exempted candidates, 60 sick candidates, and 54 candidates who dropped out without explanation, of which 51 were independent candidates). No candidates or examination staff violated the examination regulations. The examination supervision was conducted seriously, safely, and in accordance with regulations.

At 39 examination centers located in 29 communes, wards, and special zones across the province, functional forces were present to ensure security, order, and traffic safety, creating favorable conditions for candidates to reach the examination sites. With over 20,000 registered candidates, the province arranged 880 examination rooms, an increase of 31 rooms compared to 2025; approximately 2,500 officials, teachers, and staff were mobilized to participate in the examination organization. In support of the candidates, localities have implemented support plans for 830 students from disadvantaged backgrounds, students living far from examination centers, in remote areas, mountainous regions, border areas, and islands.

This afternoon, candidates will continue taking the Mathematics exam - one of the two compulsory subjects in the 2026 High School Graduation Examination, with a time limit of 90 minutes.
