Video of students sharing their thoughts on the math problem:
After completing the Math exam in the entrance exam for 10th grade at public high schools in Hanoi , many candidates said that this year's exam closely followed the review curriculum, did not contain any trick questions, but still had content that was sufficient to differentiate students.
Leaving the exam center at Thanh Xuan Trung Secondary School after more than 120 minutes of testing, Tran Minh Dung, a student from Trung Van Secondary School, commented that the exam questions were quite basic and familiar with what he had reviewed beforehand. “The exam closely followed the curriculum. The questions were generally not too difficult, only question B2 was a bit long and time-consuming. For question 5, I felt I needed to think more carefully about the calculation part,” Dung shared, predicting he could score around 9 points in Math.
Sharing the same opinion, Nguyen Chi Kiet, a student from Kim Giang Secondary School, said that this year's exam had no surprises or "traps" for candidates. "The questions were very close to the review program. Just reading the questions carefully was enough to answer them. The basic questions were quite easy to approach, while the geometry section in the differentiating question was the real challenge for good and excellent students," Kiet said.
According to Chi Kiet, even students with average academic abilities can complete most of the exam if they have a solid foundation of knowledge. Meanwhile, to achieve a score of 9 or higher, candidates need to handle the more challenging questions at the end of the exam well.
Evaluating the exam, Nguyen Van Binh, a student from Luong The Vinh Secondary School, said that this year's math exam had a higher level of difficulty in differentiating students' abilities compared to last year.
“The basic questions helped students solidify their knowledge and could score around 8 points. However, question B, part 2, and question 5 were more difficult, requiring more thought. Additionally, the question involving Viète's formulas required more flexible application of knowledge,” said candidate Nguyen Van Binh, predicting a score of 8.5 to 9 points after completing the exam.
According to a preliminary report from the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the Mathematics exam, the final subject of the 2016-2027 high school entrance exam, concluded safely, seriously, and in accordance with regulations. The city had 123,673 candidates taking the exam out of a total of 124,082 registered candidates, achieving a participation rate of 99.67%. 409 candidates were absent.
During the exam, five candidates required assistance due to health issues and received medical support as per regulations. Two candidates violated exam regulations by bringing mobile phones into the examination room.
After completing the Math exam on the morning of May 31st, candidates applying to specialized schools will continue to take the specialized subject exams on June 1st.
The exam results and admission scores for 10th grade in Hanoi's public high schools are expected to be announced between June 19th and 22nd.
