For Green Vietnam to move towards Net Zero is a journey that requires the companionship and efforts of the whole community.

That was the message that the Vietnam Green Ambassador - Miss H'Hen Niê, along with representatives from many businesses and organizations practicing ESG standards and aiming for the NetZero goal, brought to the attendees of the Vietnam Green Day 2024.

It's no coincidence that this year's Vietnam Green program's talk show series begins with the theme "Proper Waste Sorting - Waste is a Resource" and continues with the story "Businesses and Sustainable Development Solutions".

Implement strong ESG practices in the business.

Because, as H'Hen Niê's message clearly states: To move towards a Green Vietnam and achieve the NetZero goal set by the Government , everyone must work together—every business, every citizen—to achieve the common goal.

At the talk show, Ms. Nguyen Trinh Thuy Trang - Deputy General Director of Coteccons - stated that Coteccons is committed to applying ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance) standards throughout its entire value chain.

In particular, this contractor has actively implemented many ESG solutions, from using renewable energy sources and reducing carbon emissions, to applying the 3R model (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle).

According to Ms. Trang, these efforts also extend to Coteccons' partners and subcontractors, who not only share the company's commitment to environmental protection but also provide sustainable products and services that meet stringent standards.

Among Coteccons' activities, the GreenUP Marathon: Long An Half Marathon 2024, organized by Coteccons in collaboration with Tuoi Tre newspaper and other units, has also yielded positive results.

This initiative emphasizes maximizing the use of recycled building materials to minimize the use of single-use materials, while also enabling runners to become ambassadors spreading a green lifestyle and contributing to the GreenUP Marathon's tree-planting fund.

Mr. Chaturon Thipphiansak, Deputy General Director of SCG Vietnam Co., Ltd., shared a series of solutions that the company is striving to implement to reduce carbon emissions.

In this context, member companies of the SCG Group all implement the 3G principle: Green People, Green Process, and Green Products.

Alongside its efforts to plant 1 billion trees and encourage every employee to practice green living, SCG is stepping up investment in technology to reduce carbon emissions, utilize biomass energy instead of fossil fuels, reduce energy loss with waste heat recovery systems in the production process, and install rooftop solar power at its manufacturing plants.

In particular, the company also researches and produces more environmentally friendly product lines, including green cement, SCG colored roof tiles certified with the Singapore Green Label, and ultra-thin, lightweight bricks that reduce material and energy consumption by up to 40%.

In the petrochemical and packaging industries, SCG has also made new strides in greening by focusing on environmentally friendly polymer solutions that minimize material use and are more recyclable, capable of decomposing into environmentally harmless substances such as water, biomass, and organic compounds.

Another company, INSEE Vietnam, also introduced many of its greening solutions to the attendees.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tron, Head of Environmental Management and Compliance, stated that 100% of INSEE's cement products have been awarded the "Green Label" certification from the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) - a reputable organization in the field of evaluating environmentally friendly products.

Over the years, the company has also continuously sought alternative material solutions, utilizing fly ash and slag by-products from steel and thermal power production; applying heat recovery technology from furnaces to reduce electricity consumption from the national grid by 20%…

To date, INSEE Vietnam is the first cement producer in Vietnam to be awarded the International Environmental Declaration (EPD) Certificate from the EPD organization - Sweden.

This is one of the most prestigious and stringent certifications currently available, requiring products to comply with strict standards for minimizing environmental impact throughout their entire lifecycle, from production and use to recycling.

Sharing about the company's efforts to reduce emissions, Mr. Le Viet Dong Hieu - Head of Sustainable Development Department, Duy Tan Plastic Company - said that in 2021 the company implemented the construction of a plastic recycling plant, becoming a pioneer in the circular economy by collecting plastic bottles and recycling them into new plastic bottles.

Currently, the plant is collecting 92,900 tons of plastic waste, equivalent to 7.1 billion plastic bottles. The goal is to collect 100,000 tons of plastic per year to increase the number of recycled plastic bottles.

Sorting waste at source is key to recycling, for a green Vietnam.

According to Mr. Le Viet Dong Hieu, a representative of Duy Tan Plastics, sorting waste at the source is key to the successful operation of the plastic bottle recycling plants that Duy Tan is currently running. Because only with waste sorting can recycling be achieved.

This is where the role of each consumer, each citizen, who directly uses the products and sorts waste at home, comes into play.

Nguyen Thanh Ha, the reigning Miss Environment World 2023, shared that she has observed that waste sorting is still not being implemented in schools and homes.

In addition, one challenge for young people like her is how to limit ordering food from outside through apps.

I sometimes find myself overusing technology and neglecting family meals, and my habit of ordering takeout has resulted in a lot of plastic waste after each meal. During COVID-19, when restaurants were closed, I started cooking at home, and that helped save money and significantly reduce plastic waste.

Participating in the Vietnam Green Day event, Miss Universe H'Hen Niê shared that the Net Zero goal by 2050 is a journey that requires the companionship and efforts of the entire community.

According to her, protecting the environment and promoting a green lifestyle is not the responsibility of any one person, but a mission for every individual and every member of society. "Everyone has a role to play in building a sustainable future, aiming for a better living environment for future generations," she shared.

In particular, H'Hen called on young people to share the same vision, starting with the simplest actions such as limiting the use of plastic bags when shopping or going to the market, and actively participating in green community activities such as reforestation and nature conservation.

She presented a picture of the end of the year: After the spectacular fireworks displays, there was a scene of chaotic garbage dumps – a sight that we could easily change if we worked together and were more conscious.

H'Hen also encouraged young people to proactively learn and better understand their responsibility to protect the environment.

Every region of Vietnam is our common home. The responsibility to keep our country green, clean, and beautiful rests with everyone.

At the talk show themed "Proper Waste Sorting - Waste is a Resource," Mr. Nguyen Luong Ngoc, head of the Saigon Green Club, whose activities include collecting waste and transforming trash-filled canals into green waterways, said they have continuously shared videos of their waste collection on social media platforms to spread awareness of green living to the community.

"To date, these videos have received over 3 billion views, and more than 3,000 tons of garbage have been collected from over 300 canals and waterways in Ho Chi Minh City."

"Saigon Green also came up with the initiative to build garbage barriers at the source to separate the waste, helping local people understand how difficult it is to clean up waste and thus develop their own feelings about littering," he shared.
