The Hydrogen Energy and Environmental Technology Center aims to develop environmental technology and green energy in Vietnam to support the zero-emissions goal.
The initiative was shared at the High-level Forum "Energy transition and development of green hydrogen energy industry in Vietnam", on the afternoon of October 28. Mr. Do Tien Thinh, Deputy Director of the National Innovation Center (NIC), said that the Green Hydrogen Energy and Environmental Technology Center has its first facility in Hanoi, in order to create an innovation space for businesses. research, cooperation and development.
To do so, the center promotes research and development (R&D) in environmental and hydrogen technologies; developing a focused ecosystem towards the Netzero goal by 2050. The Center also fosters high-quality human resources for innovation, enhancing Vietnam's sustainable energy development.
Emphasizing the role of green hydrogen in energy policy, Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung led the national strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021-2030. He said that green growth needs to be concretized with solutions based on science, technology and innovation. Vietnam needs to take more drastic and breakthrough steps to bring the green economy from a scale of 6,7 billion USD contributing to the total national GDP in 2020 to 300 billion USD in 2050. In particular, the ecosystem Clean hydrogen based on renewable energy has the potential to contribute 40-45 billion USD to annual GDP, creating about 40-50 thousand jobs for the domestic market.
According to Power Plan VIII, the development of hydrogen production and application in the fields of industry, transportation, electricity production and green energy sources is strongly promoted in Vietnam. "Green hydrogen also has great potential for export to developed countries, which is urgent in the energy transition process in Vietnam," he said.
He said that to effectively "hydrogenate", businesses need to prepare and equip capital, technology, high-tech human resources, learn and update experiences from countries, organizations and businesses. advance for optimization in research and testing.
Mr. Dang Hai Anh, Head of Petroleum Department, Department of Petroleum and Coal, Ministry of Industry and Trade, shared plans to develop new and renewable energy, including using hydrogen energy. Orientation to 2050, promoting the application of hydrogen energy and hydrogen-derived fuels in energy fields. Besides, forming and developing the hydrogen energy consumption market according to the market mechanism, bringing the proportion of hydrogen energy to about 10% of the final energy demand.
He proposed to pilot the construction of small and medium-scale green hydrogen energy production and distribution centers and facilities suitable for the ability to ensure safety. At the same time, it is necessary to deploy new technology, apply hydrogen energy production technology and gradually master carbon capture and use technology associated with the process of producing hydrogen from other energies.
At the forum, experts proposed that Vietnam needs to soon adopt appropriate policies and mechanisms to build infrastructure and value chains related to hydrogen. Specifically, create favorable conditions to attract investment in clean hydrogen production projects. In addition, it is necessary to focus on research and development activities in this field and establish technical regulations and standards related to hydrogen.
The forum is within the framework of Vietnam International Innovation Exhibition 2023 (VIIE 2023) at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park. The event is chaired by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and coordinated by NIC, taking place for 5 days, from October 28 to November 10.
