(Dan Tri Newspaper) - Many high schools in various provinces and cities have not yet completed the 12th-grade curriculum. Students will have limited time for review if the graduation exam is held in early June.
If the high school graduation exam is held early, students will not have time to review.
"Students will only finish all the 12th-grade curriculum content by the end of May. Therefore, they will only have about two weeks to review if the graduation exam schedule is moved up to the beginning of June," Ms. HTH, a teacher in Hai Duong , shared with a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper.
Ms. H. was discussing a new teaching plan with her colleagues when she read the news that some localities were proposing to move the high school graduation exam date forward by three weeks.
If the Ministry of Education and Training approves this proposal, teachers like Ms. H. and many high schools across the country will have to completely change their teaching and review plans for graduating students.

"In theory, students should master the knowledge they learn. But in reality, the more time they spend reviewing and applying their knowledge, the more solidified it becomes."
Eleven years ago, the high school graduation exam and the university entrance exam were two separate exams, serving two different goals. The high school graduation exam was held immediately after the end of the school year. The university entrance exam was scheduled more than a month later to give students time to prepare thoroughly.
Since 2015, the two exams have been combined into one, giving students an extra month to prepare.
The fact that students had their revision time cut short by nearly three weeks inevitably impacted their exam results.
"In particular, there is an uneven distribution between private and public schools, specialized and regular schools, and urban and rural schools. Because private and specialized schools often finish their programs very early, students have more time to review," Ms. HTH analyzed.
Too many changes to an exam make it difficult for students and teachers.
Sharing the same view, Mr. M.D.V, a teacher in Hanoi , is worried about students having to race against time.
"I hope the exam isn't moved up, or at least not by a week. Too many changes to an exam will make things difficult for both students and teachers."
The 2007 graduating class is the first to take the high school graduation exam under the new curriculum. They may also be the first to apply to university under the new regulations, which abolish early admissions and change the scoring method.
Students are also a group directly affected by Circular 29 on tutoring and supplementary classes. Many schools have stopped intensive review sessions due to the Circular prohibiting the collection of fees.

Urban students who don't attend school can study at learning centers. Students in suburban areas who don't attend school can only study online. The effectiveness is limited because they lack the necessary preparation for self-study.
With such limited time for revision, how can these students compete with students from the city?
"I believe that decisions regarding this year's high school graduation exam need to be carefully considered. We had a chaotic 2021 graduation exam due to Covid-19. But that was an unavoidable natural disaster. We shouldn't create unnecessary disruption for the psychology of students and parents," said teacher M.V.D.
Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper , Nguyen Manh Quan, a 12th-grade student in Hanoi, said he is ready to take the high school graduation exam early. However, Quan's plans for university admission have been affected.
"I registered for the SAT on June 7th, which coincides with the proposed new high school graduation exam schedule. I inquired about changing the SAT date, but there are no more available dates in June or July. If the proposed exam date is finalized, I will lose the opportunity to have another method of university admission," Quân worried.
As Dan Tri newspaper previously reported, the Ministry of Education and Training initially planned to hold the 2025 high school graduation exam on June 26-27. However, in a document recently sent to the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training proposed adjusting the exam schedule to June 7-10.
Nghe An, Hanoi, and Ninh Binh also made similar proposals.
Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Quality Management Department, stated that, in general, if the high school graduation exam has to be moved, there will be an option that minimizes the impact on the entire system. This is a major issue, so it will be carefully considered before a decision is made.
