What tourists positively evaluate about Da Nang beach tourism mostly revolves around the factors: cheap and beautiful. Da Nang has both mountains and sea, all the beaches are beautiful, the sea water is warm, the coastline is long.

The resorts have children's play areas, are peaceful, quiet and clean. At regular beaches, visitors only spend a few dollars to rent a lounge chair with an umbrella. The beach is not too crowded, the seafood is delicious and cheap. If you go from the hotels in the center, visitors only spend less than 5 USD to rent a service car to the beach.

But tourists choose Da Nang not only because of the sea but also because of the values ​​associated with the sea that the government and tourism industry have worked hard to build.

Beach tourism is not only about enjoying the beaches, but also about diverse experiences: enjoying festivals, sports and cultural activities. Taking advantage of the strengths of beach tourism and promoting the diversification of tourism experiences is an effective step to help Da Nang develop sustainable tourism.

According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the tourism product groups that attract the most visitors to the city are: “Festival/event tourism”, “Sightseeing, experience, entertainment, theme park tourism” and “Beach tourism, beach resorts”. These product groups attracted 4 million visitors out of more than 7 million domestic and international visitors to Da Nang last year.

Understanding tourists

To ensure the security and safety of tourists for the best experience, Da Nang City has established a rapid response team and a Tourist Support Center. The Center has promptly and strictly handled cases of "price gouging" and negative manifestations in tourism service activities.

However, many tourists, especially international tourists, are still unaware of these support services. They often share their unwanted experiences on their familiar social media platforms.

Technology and social networks, especially Instagram and Tiktok, are becoming important references for tourists when choosing a destination. Many tourists choose to come to Vietnam just because of a short clip of less than 2 minutes on Tiktok. Therefore, it is necessary to listen to tourists more, through discussions on forums, reviews from social networks, to have an objective assessment of Da Nang beach tourism and from there make appropriate adjustments.

The policy of “5 No”, “3 Yes” and “4 Safe” implemented by the Da Nang City government for many years has helped maintain hygiene, beauty and security for the city’s tourism image, leaving a good impression: “Da Nang is like a Singapore of Vietnam”.

Limited Perspective

Recently, the implementation of management policies from Da Nang City has been lax. Some negative things have gradually returned: dogs roaming freely, noisy karaoke at tourist attractions, accommodation, street vendors, theft targeting tourists...

Airbnb is a popular home rental application in the world and has only been available in Vietnam for a few years. Currently, this application has caused many controversies such as fraud and lack of management mechanism. In Da Nang, there have been cases of accommodation establishments deliberately posting false information about accommodation, renting at prices other than the listed price, taking advantage of tourists' lack of information to commit fraud.

In addition, since 2006, the beach rescue team has safely rescued 1,750 tourists. However, because income is not high, it is difficult to find people who are fluent in foreign languages. Therefore, there have been some misunderstandings when lifeguards assist and guide tourists to swim in the sea.

Seawater quality is also a factor that causes confusion for tourists when the phenomenon of dumping waste into the sea still occurs. Many posts on groups and social networks of tourists share concerns about health safety when swimming in the sea.

In terms of promotion and event organization, tourists also commented that the city’s tourism promotion banners and posters are not creative or outstanding, and lack unique features. Even the banner introducing the tourism festival makes international tourists mistakenly think it is an activity for children.

Encouraging international artists to directly participate in the festival content is also a good way of Da Nang. However, some foreign artists complain that the organization of the festivals is still unprofessional.

The project “Orientation for tourism development in Da Nang city to 2030, vision to 2045” aims to make Da Nang a leading tourist destination in Asia - one of the centers for high-class, creative, green, smart, eco-tourism and sea resort tourism, and organizing international conferences and festival events.

To realize this goal, the government and businesses need to make more efforts to build a diverse, rich, colorful, yet friendly, secure and safe tourism ecosystem.
