Many advantages from the sea.

Most of the positive reviews tourists give about Da Nang's beaches revolve around the following factors: affordability and beauty. Da Nang has both mountains and beaches, all the beaches are beautiful, the seawater is warm, and the coastline is long.

The resorts have playgrounds for children, and offer peace, quiet, and cleanliness. At the regular beaches, visitors only need to spend a few dollars to rent a sun lounger with an umbrella. The beaches aren't too crowded, and the seafood is delicious and inexpensive. If traveling from hotels in the city center, visitors can hire a shuttle service to the beach for less than $5.

But tourists choose Da Nang not only for its beaches but also for the values associated with the sea that the government and tourism industry are striving to build.

Beach tourism is not just about enjoying the beaches, but also about diverse experiences: enjoying festivals, sports activities, and cultural events. Effectively leveraging the strengths of beach tourism and promoting the diversification of tourism experiences is an effective step to help Da Nang develop sustainable tourism.

According to the Da Nang Department of Tourism, the tourism product groups that attract the most visitors to the city are: "Festival/Event Tourism", "Sightseeing, Experiential, Entertainment, and Theme Park Tourism", and "Beach Tourism and Resort Tourism". These product groups attracted 4 million visitors out of more than 7 million domestic and international tourists who visited Da Nang last year.

Understanding travelers

To ensure the security and safety of tourists and provide them with the best possible experience, Da Nang City has established a rapid response team and a Tourist Support Center. The center has promptly and strictly handled cases of price gouging and negative behaviors in tourism services.

However, many tourists, especially international visitors, are still unaware of these support services. They often share unpleasant experiences on their familiar social media platforms.

Technology and social media, especially Instagram and TikTok, are becoming important sources of information for tourists when choosing destinations. Many tourists choose to visit Vietnam based on a short clip of less than 2 minutes on TikTok. Therefore, it is necessary to listen more to tourists, through discussions on forums and reviews from social media, to obtain objective assessments of Da Nang's beach tourism and make appropriate adjustments.

The "5 No's," "3 Yes's," and "4 Safeties" policies implemented by the Da Nang city government for many years have helped maintain hygiene, aesthetics, and security for the city's tourism landscape, leaving a positive impression: "Da Nang is like a Singapore of Vietnam."

Acknowledging limitations

Recently, the implementation of management policies in Da Nang City has become lax. Some negative issues are gradually returning: stray dogs, noisy karaoke at tourist spots and accommodations, street vendors, and theft targeting tourists…

Airbnb is a popular home rental app worldwide and has only been available in Vietnam for a few years. Currently, the app is causing much controversy, such as fraud and a lack of regulatory mechanisms. In Da Nang, there have been cases of accommodation establishments intentionally posting misleading information, renting at prices higher than the listed rates, and exploiting tourists' lack of information to commit fraud.

In addition, from 2006 to the present, beach rescue teams have safely rescued 1,750 tourists. However, due to low income, it is difficult to find people fluent in foreign languages. Therefore, there have been some misunderstandings when lifeguards assist and guide tourists swimming in the sea.

Seawater quality is also a cause for concern for tourists, as the dumping of waste into the sea continues to occur. Many posts on social media and online groups share concerns about health and safety when swimming in the sea.

Regarding promotion and event organization, tourists also commented that the city's tourism banners and posters lacked creativity, uniqueness, and distinctiveness. Some banners even misled international tourists into thinking the events were for children.

Encouraging international artists to directly participate in festival activities is also a good approach by Da Nang. However, some foreign artists have complained that the organization of the festivals is still not professional enough.

The project "Orientation for the Development of Tourism in Da Nang City until 2030, with a vision to 2045" aims to make Da Nang a leading tourist destination in Asia – one of the centers for high-end, innovative, green, and smart beach and eco-tourism resorts, and a venue for international conferences, events, and festivals.

To achieve this goal, the government and businesses need to make greater efforts to build a diverse, rich, and colorful tourism ecosystem that is also friendly, secure, and safe.
