At the membership induction ceremony of the Ho Chi Minh City Writers Association on January 15th, a petite poet from Australia was in attendance. That was Vo Thi Nhu Mai, who specializes in translating beautiful Vietnamese poems to introduce them to readers around the world.
Poet Vo Thi Nhu Mai
Her Vietnamese Rhythm book series officially launched after the success of her first 500-page bilingual book, featuring over 700 bilingual poems by authors from Vietnam and abroad. Following that success, translator Nhu Mai continued with her work, *The Price I Would Have Waited For That Day *, a selection of 850 poems by 220 authors, not only celebrating the language of poetry but also opening a space for readers to explore cultural diversity through each page.
Most recently, translator Nhu Mai continued her journey of spreading bilingual poetry with her new poetry collection, "The Rhythm of Time ," comprising 264 bilingual poems by 264 authors from diverse cultural backgrounds. Each poem is a unique story, a distinct breath of life. The poet not only served as translator but also designed and formatted the book herself, creating a compact, small-format volume illustrated to suit the content and style of each author.
The book launch events held in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, and Da Nang created a space for cultural connection and exchange. "Poetry becomes a bridge, bringing people from different lands closer together, sharing common values about love, life, and beauty. Therefore, the 'Vietnamese Rhythm' book series not only fulfills the mission of preserving and developing poetry but also promotes mutual understanding and respect between cultures," poet and translator Vo Thi Nhu Mai expressed.
