Research on updating textbooks
Regarding the revision of textbooks after the rearrangement of administrative boundaries and the two-level local government model, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, said: The Publishing House has directed its member units and editorial board to review and compile all relevant content, requirements, knowledge, data, place names, maps, charts, and socio-economic information related to changes in administrative boundaries and two-level government, and at the same time report to the Ministry of Education and Training for guidance and direction, as a basis for revision.
The revision of textbooks will be carried out on the principle of closely following the adjusted contents approved by the Ministry of Education and Training, ensuring full updates of the requirements, knowledge, data, place names, maps, charts and socio-economic information. However, the revision will be carefully considered, in order to minimize changes to the content of textbooks in use.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, through review, it has been determined that a number of subjects are directly affected by changes in administrative boundaries, including: History and Geography for grades 4, 5, and 9; Geography for grade 12; History and Economic and Legal Education for grade 10.
These subjects will take steps according to regulations to edit the subject program as a basis for editing textbooks, such as updating requirements, knowledge content, place names, data, maps, charts and socio-economic information. However, editing the subject program will be implemented according to the principle of minimizing changes to textbooks, strengthening guidance for teachers and schools to proactively implement the program according to their authority to suit reality.
In the coming time, the Ministry of Education and Training will issue a document directing and guiding localities and schools to urgently review and evaluate the implementation of the 2018 general education program to update and adjust a number of subjects, including subjects affected by administrative boundary adjustments. At the same time, it will guide publishers, organizations and individuals with approved textbooks to make necessary adjustments to the content, ensuring the stability of textbooks and effectiveness in teaching and learning.
Regarding local education content, based on Resolution No. 202/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units and on the basis of the framework program and guiding documents, localities proactively develop content suitable to the characteristics of new administrative units and the two-level government model, while promptly updating administrative-social changes, promoting the role of autonomy in program implementation.
Adjust teaching content
While waiting for official guidance, many educational institutions have proactively adjusted teaching materials, lessons, and topics to ensure they are appropriate to the local situation. From the actual implementation at the grassroots level, many schools have been proactive and flexible to ensure timely adaptation of teaching.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Thuy, Principal of Tan Tien Secondary School (Xuan Mai Commune, Hanoi City) said: Updating local information and data in History and Geography subjects is a mandatory requirement, requiring teachers to promptly adjust teaching content to suit reality. To ensure that the teaching and learning of History and Geography subjects for grade 9 is not interrupted, the school has organized training and seminars so that teachers can promptly grasp new administrative information, related documents and changes in local socio-economic and cultural conditions. At the same time, the content of lectures, reference materials, maps and diagrams is reviewed and adjusted to ensure accuracy and suitability.
During the teaching process, teachers are encouraged to innovate their methods, increase the application of images, documentary videos, etc. to help students learn visually and vividly. Testing and evaluation are also adjusted to promote thinking ability and focus on students' ability to apply knowledge into practice and their skills of analysis, comparison, and evaluation.
Meanwhile, teacher Tran Thi Trang Nhung, History teacher at Tran Quang Khai High School (Trieu Viet Vuong commune, Hung Yen province) said: Editing and supplementing documents is necessary to ensure accuracy, updating and suitability to reality.
According to Ms. Nhung, teachers need to proactively expand and integrate more related knowledge. For example, in the past, the local education content of Hung Yen province did not mention the sea element, but now, after merging with the coastal province of Thai Binh, it is necessary to add more information about geography and appropriate culture. While waiting for specific guidance documents, school teachers proactively research and exploit documents from reliable sources to adjust and update the content of lectures. This not only demonstrates a sense of responsibility but also helps students access knowledge in a complete, accurate and close to local reality.
At the primary level, schools have also proactively implemented preparations early, ensuring that they are not passive when entering the school year. Principal of Dan Tien Primary School (Viet Tien Commune, Hung Yen Province), Dao Thi Thanh Tam, said that the school has adjusted the unit's educational plan: Teachers will proactively research and adjust the content of the lesson plan to ensure it is suitable for the actual situation.
At the present time, the school's professional department also reminds teachers to proactively learn about the contents related to changes in administrative boundaries. This is to prepare for August - the time to build teaching plans for subjects and educational activities, helping teachers promptly update and implement in the new school year.
