The Life of A Showgirl is a bright and happy "era" for Taylor Swift. Of course, in any era we see her in love, but in this era, when her real-life love affair with athlete Travis Kelce flourished.

The positive energy of the love between "the literature teacher and the gym teacher" cannot be hidden in the musical works, although there are also moments of anger, bitterness, grumpiness, even spoiled, "insolent" moments that make people wonder: "What the hell is this, Taylor?".

Album with songs of love and hate

Taylor returns to pop music, but not the catchy, addictive, perfectly produced synth pop of 1989. The music she pursues this time is a very comfortable, natural, and liberal pop-soft rock.

And the result is that she finally lets loose. If in her previous album, The Tortured Poets Department, we still saw Swift bound by the ambition to prove her linguistic ability, that she is a poet in music (even the album title has to be elaborate, struggling to be like a poet), then in The Life of A Showgirl she has nothing to prove anymore.

The lyrics are much simpler.

Add in the lack of memorable melodies and unforgettable passages, and the album as a whole is probably just average for Taylor Swift. But average for Taylor Swift is already a very high standard.

The lyrics, though simple, still have a literary color. Right at the beginning is the track The Fate of Ophelia, inspired by the fate of Ophelia in William Shakespeare's Hamlet. Ophelia's death later became a source of creativity for many musicians.

But Taylor, a woman who is difficult to understand and very complicated, all she wants is love. The Life of A Showgirl is probably not one of the most glorious eras in Taylor Swift's musical journey, but why care, because now she has love.
