The news quickly attracted attention because it's a rare occasion for Noo Phuoc Thinh to collaborate with a young artist from Generation Z on an official project. But what piqued the audience's curiosity even more was: who exactly is 52Hz, and what is it about this female singer that made a long-time music star like Noo Phuoc Thinh want to collaborate with her?
52Hz - From "Lone Whale" to Distinctive Musical Color
52Hz, whose real name is Tran Thi Phuong Thao, was born in 1999. Before becoming widely known through the program... Hi, she's been active in the indie community for quite some time under the stage name Alice.
The name 52Hz is inspired by the "52Hz whale"—a creature often called " the world's loneliest whale" because it emits a frequency that none of its peers can hear.
This image also partly reflects the musical style that the singer pursues: solitary, ambiguous, introspective, and emotionally rich.
Unlike the typical image of a V-pop female singer, 52Hz doesn't cultivate an overly perfect or polished style. She pursues an image that is somewhat "deliberately unconventional." Her hairstyles change constantly, her fashion blends Y3K and underground styles , her singing voice is half-whispering, half-mysterious, and her music mixes R&B, trap-soul, and alternative pop.
Songs like "Waiting , " "Broken , " "No More Pain," and "Love Labyrinth" helped her build a loyal audience among young indie music lovers before entering the mainstream market.

Why did Noo Phuoc Thinh choose 52Hz?
In the EP "Pick Up the Phone ," 52Hz will feature the song "The Last Call," which is predicted to be a melancholic ballad. This also marks the first time Noo Phuoc Thinh has collaborated with the female singer born in 1999.
According to Noo Phuoc Thinh, he is attracted by the creative energy of today's young artists: "Young people now are very talented and proactive in music. Working with them, I feel like I'm being given new, much more youthful energy."

Ten years after his EP "I Don't Believe in You" (2016), Noo Phuoc Thinh has released a new EP - Photo: Provided by the artist.
Meanwhile, 52Hz stated that she had listened to Noo Phuoc Thinh's music since childhood and felt "very special" to be collaborating with him on a musical project for the first time.
This collaboration is seen as an interesting meeting between two generations of V-pop. On one side is a music star who dominated the market for nearly 20 years, and on the other is a Gen Z female artist with an indie and alternative sound.
Noo Phuoc Thinh "reinvents" himself with energy from Gen Z.
The EP "Pick Up the Phone" consists of 4 tracks with a consistent concept revolving around telephones and calls. The project was composed by MiQ and Soulient of Catchellers, with music production handled by DTAP.
For this project, Noo Phuoc Thinh had to try things he had "never done before" in the recording studio. "It feels like the musical genre in the EP isn't too unfamiliar, but it's also very new to Noo," he shared.
The project's official poster also drew attention with its minimalist cinematic tone, featuring an image of a fish tank and an extended telephone cord, evoking feelings of loneliness, connection, and waiting.
Besides music, Noo Phuoc Thinh also launched a series of activities with a Gen Z flavor, such as fan calls, live streaming conversations via phone, and limited-edition merchandise.
