On June 28, Vietnam Airlines leaders said that the suspension of four pilots on the Boeing 787 and Airbus 321 aircraft will begin from the afternoon of June 27 until the airline has a conclusion on the incident.
Vietnam Airlines has set up an independent investigation team to find out and evaluate the cause of the incident, in parallel with the investigation team of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam. The airline is also coordinating with aviation authorities to clarify the incident.
Informing VTC News about the collision, Mr. Tran Doan Mau, Director of the Northern Port Authority, said that at about 2:45 p.m. on June 27, at the intersection of S and S3, Boeing 787 aircraft with registration number VN-A863 (operating on flight VN7205 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City) was taxiing onto the runway to prepare for takeoff when its wing brushed the tail of Airbus 321 aircraft with registration number VN-A338, which was waiting at taxiway S3 to perform flight VN1804 from Hanoi to Dien Bien.
As a result, the Boeing plane suffered damage to the right wingtip, and the Airbus had a torn vertical wing.
According to the Northern Airports Authority, initial records show that the Airbus preparing to depart for Dien Bien did not park at the correct waiting stop on taxiway S3.
Immediately after the incident, functional units at Noi Bai airport urgently handled the situation according to procedures, ensuring the safety of passengers and flight crew. All passengers on the two flights were assisted and arranged to transfer to alternative flights to continue their journey.
