Police major returns 400 million VND forgotten in car trunk

Discovering a handbag containing nearly 400 million VND placed on the trunk of her car, Major Le Thi Tu handed it over to the unit and, together with police leaders, returned it to the owner.

At around 6:30 p.m. on September 25, Major Le Thi Tu, an officer of the Staff Team, Department of Administrative Management of Social Order ( Nghe An Police), drove to her biological parents' house in Thanh Vinh ward and discovered a handbag on the trunk.

Suspecting that there was a large amount of property inside, Ms. Tu drove to the apartment building where her family lived, about a kilometer away, to look for the owner. She guessed that while parking the car in the lobby, someone put the bag in the trunk and forgot about it.

After waiting for more than an hour without seeing anyone come to claim it, she asked the apartment security guard to open the bag and check, and discovered a passport, a driver's license in the name of Pham Ngoc Hien, and many Vietnamese and USD bills, totaling about 400 million VND. After 9:00 p.m., the owner still had not appeared, so Ms. Tu asked the security guard's opinion and brought the bag back to hand over to the unit's leaders.

The police made a record, sealed the money and applied professional measures to verify. At 11pm the same day, the authorities identified the owner as Mr. Pham Ngoc Hien, residing in Vinh Phu ward, so they invited him to come in for questioning. On September 26, after verifying the information, the police returned all the property to Mr. Hien.

Mr. Hien said he was in the used car business. On the evening of September 25, while taking his car to be washed at a garage near Thanh Vinh Ward apartment building, he took out his belongings and put his bag of money in the trunk of a 5-seater car and forgot to take it with him. He thanked Major Tu and Nghe An Police for helping him find his property.

Ms. Tu shared that she also felt relieved when she quickly identified the owner. "Anyone who lost such a large amount of money would be very worried. Luckily, the bag did not fall during the more than one kilometer I drove," she said.
