According to the Gia Lai Provincial Civil Defense Command, at 9:30 p.m. on September 28, the Provincial Border Guard Command received a report from Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station that fishing boat BD 97258 TS, owned and captained by Mr. Huynh Van Son (born in 1981, residing in Hoai Nhon Dong ward, Gia Lai province), had lost contact while operating at sea.
Previously, at 8:13 p.m. on September 27, while fishing for tuna in the sea about 147 nautical miles from Quy Nhon ward, the ship's tracking device suddenly lost connection. At 8:45 p.m. on September 28, Mr. Son's family reported the incident to Tam Quan Nam Border Guard Station.
A representative of the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command said that they have not yet been able to contact the fishing boat mentioned above. The provincial authorities are coordinating with the Border Guards of Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak provinces and calling on vessels operating near the area where the boat lost signal to assist in the search.
The Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested to consider this an emergency situation, mobilize the entire political system to participate, and immediately establish a temporary Command Center, on duty 24/7 to handle arising situations.
He also directed to expand the search area to over 200 nautical miles, send signals to ships in the area, and report to the Ministry of National Defense to mobilize the Coast Guard and Navy to coordinate the search.
