Diversifying livelihoods helps Tu My people have more opportunities to escape poverty.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, sustainable poverty reduction continues to be identified by the political system in Tu My commune as one of the key tasks. Poverty reduction support policies are implemented synchronously, promptly, and in accordance with the conditions of each family. Not only supporting livelihoods, the locality also focuses on orienting production development, paying attention to essential infrastructure, and improving the quality of life of the people.

Thanks to livelihood support, Ms. Le Thi Vy's family (village 4, Tu My commune, wearing blue shirt) has the opportunity to escape near-poverty and stabilize their lives.

Chairwoman of the Fatherland Front Committee of Tu My Commune, Le Thi Thanh Mai, said: "The sustainable poverty reduction models have had many innovations in both thinking and working methods, gradually shifting from direct support to giving "fishing rods" to encourage poor and near-poor households to proactively rise up. In addition, poverty reduction work has also been linked to promoting production development, vocational training, livelihood transformation and building new rural areas."

According to Ms. Mai, poverty reduction models have been implemented in a very diverse way, exploiting local advantages and resources. The models are applied flexibly, not only stopping at subsidizing and supporting production, but also through training, capacity building, supporting connections, providing effective production support policies, credit, and markets. The policies are also oriented towards sustainable production and sustainable poverty reduction. Poor households are also reorganized and guided together to escape poverty and get rich.

Thanks to timely and appropriate support policies, Ms. Le Thi Vy's family has the opportunity to escape near-poverty to develop production and rebuild their house.

Thanks to the effective implementation of poverty reduction policies and diversified livelihood models, the lives of many households have changed. Previously, the lives of 6 people in Ms. Le Thi Vy's family (village 4, Tu My commune) were in dire straits after having to take care of her disabled mother and 3 school-age children. It is known that her family escaped poverty in 2017 and escaped near-poverty in 2022.

At the end of 2023, according to the support program for poor households, near-poor households, and newly escaped poverty households, according to the principle of only supporting households that have escaped poverty (households that have escaped poverty and escaped near-poverty) for a period of no more than 3 years, her family was supported with a breeding cow and was instructed in livestock raising techniques. With practical and appropriate support policies and the encouragement of the local government and mass organizations, Ms. Vy expanded her livestock model to chickens, pigs, and bought more buffaloes.
"Thanks to the attention and cooperation of the Party Committee, the government and the whole society, my family not only received "a fishing rod" but also received many more opportunities, thereby stabilizing our lives, rebuilding our house, and giving our children more opportunities to study," she said emotionally.

Tu My commune promptly disseminates the policies and guidelines of the Central and the province to the people, including those related to poverty reduction.

Mr. Nguyen Kieu Hung - Chairman of Tu My Commune People's Committee said: "In the past time, the local government together with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and mass organizations have fully grasped the policies and guidelines of the Central Government and the province on poverty reduction. Thereby, helping poor and near-poor households understand the State's support policies and regimes to proactively approach and promote their internal strength to rise up. The Commune People's Committee has clearly assigned tasks to each specialized department; at the same time, arranged appropriate resources to effectively implement projects and programs to support poor and near-poor households".

According to the Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, the groups of poverty reduction solutions implemented synchronously by Tu My Commune include: Strengthening vocational training, introducing jobs, expanding opportunities for local workers; supporting the development of production and livestock models suitable to the conditions of each household and each village; transforming the structure of crops and livestock with high economic value, applying science and technology to production. In addition, the commune has actively reviewed poor and near-poor households annually according to multidimensional poverty standards, ensuring publicity, transparency, and the right subjects for timely and effective support. "Poverty reduction work is not only about material support but also creating conditions for people to proactively rise up in developing their family economy, contributing to building a rich and civilized homeland," Mr. Hung emphasized.

Thanks to the attention and practical support of local authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and mass organizations, people of Tu My commune actively develop production and increase income.

Thanks to the efforts of the political system, people's awareness has changed significantly, no longer waiting and relying on the State's support, but instead proactively striving to escape poverty sustainably. Many households have boldly invested in developing livestock, crop and commodity production models, contributing to creating a driving force that spreads throughout society.

The Commune Fatherland Front Committee focused on coordinating the synchronous implementation of the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas" associated with the local key tasks and patriotic emulation movements. Thanks to that, it has created a vibrant emulation atmosphere, encouraging and motivating people to proactively develop production - business, shift economic structure, crops, livestock, legitimately enrich and sustainably reduce poverty. Up to now, the whole commune has 34/37 villages meeting the model new rural standards; over 96.5% of families have achieved the title of "Cultural Family"; 37/37 villages maintain "Cultural Village", reaching a rate of 100%.

Mr. Nguyen Kieu Hung - Chairman of Tu My Commune People's Committee said: "In the coming time, we will continue to reduce poverty in a multidimensional, substantial and sustainable manner; in which the people are the center, self-reliance is the driving force, the government and the Fatherland Front are the fulcrum. The Commune People's Committee will diversify forms of propaganda, mobilize social resources, encourage businesses, organizations and individuals to join the poverty reduction work; the local government will always accompany and create all conditions for people to develop the economy, stabilize their lives, and contribute to building an increasingly rich and civilized homeland."
