Duc Tho and Nguyen Du High Schools celebrate 60th anniversary of founding

On the morning of November 16, Duc Tho High School solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate its 60th anniversary (1965 - 2025).

Duc Tho High School was established in 1959. In November 1963, according to Decision 1649-QD/VX, the school changed its name to Tran Phu High School.

By 1965, due to war circumstances, the Ha Tinh Provincial Administrative Committee issued a decision to split the school into two schools: One school named Duc Tho High School located at the foot of Chua Am Mountain, in two communes Duc Hoa and Duc Lac (old); and one school named Tran Phu High School located in Duc Thuy (old).

In 1965, Duc Tho High School (now Duc Tho High School) opened a new school year - this was a milestone marking the journey of construction and development of the school's teaching staff. From 1965 to now, the school has undergone 5 relocations; since 1979, the school has been located in Duc Lang commune (now Duc Dong commune, Ha Tinh province).

After 60 years of construction and development, the school has 399 teachers and staff who have worked and are working; 16 People's Teachers and Excellent Teachers; more than 22,000 graduates; more than 1,400 students who achieved National Excellent Students, Northern Excellent Students and Provincial Excellent Students; many students passed the valedictorian exams and top universities in the country; many generations of successful students became leaders and key staff in agencies, organizations and enterprises.

After more than half a century of construction and development, Duc Tho High School has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State such as: Third-class Labor Medal; Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Central Committee of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union... and was recognized as a national standard school for the period 2015 - 2020 and 2022 - 2027.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, teacher Thai Thi Bich Ngoc - Principal of Duc Tho High School, on behalf of the teachers and students, expressed her deep respect and gratitude for the achievements and valuable lessons that previous generations have worked hard to cultivate. Entering a new stage of development, Duc Tho High School continues to be steadfast in its mission: "Dedication - Intelligence - Humanity - Creativity".

Each cadre, teacher and staff of the school will constantly innovate teaching methods, apply technology, focus on life skills education, train qualities and develop students' capacity, contributing to the educational career of the province.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training Nguyen Hong Cuong praised and congratulated the achievements that Duc Tho High School has achieved over the past 60 years. In order to promote tradition and build the school into a leading educational unit in the province, the representative of the Department of Education and Training requested the school's Board of Directors to continue to build a united and strong collective, focusing on political , moral and ideological education; each teacher is a shining example, training citizens with knowledge, courage and aspiration to contribute. Continue to carry out the task of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training in the spirit of Resolution 71 of the Politburo and Resolution of the 20th Provincial Party Congress.

On this occasion, Duc Tho High School was honored to receive a certificate of merit from the Minister of Education and Training in recognition of the school's outstanding achievements.

In 1965, Nghi Xuan High School - the predecessor of Nguyen Du High School was officially established. At that time, the school only had 3 classes, 157 students and 7 teachers, but the fire of studiousness and patriotism warmed the thatched and bamboo classrooms.

From 1968 to 1972, the war was more fierce but the results of teachers and students of Nguyen Du school were still full of pride: in the 1971-1972 school year, the 8th grade Math team ranked 3rd, the 10th grade Math team ranked 4th in the whole province. The title "Advanced School against America" was a worthy reward for extraordinary efforts.

After the Paris Agreement (1973), the school moved to Tien Dien commune - the hometown of the great national poet Nguyen Du and was officially named Nguyen Du High School. The school's name is not only a great honor but also a reminder to teachers and students of their responsibility to continue and promote the great poet's spirit of humanity, studiousness, and patriotism.
