Central region at risk of new flood, North welcomes cold air

The area from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa has had and continues to have moderate to very heavy rain and there is a risk of flooding in this area.

In addition, due to the influence of strong cold air, from November 17, the Northern region will have rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places.

The area from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa continues to have heavy to very heavy rain today. Strong cold air is still moving south, expected to affect the North tomorrow (November 17). This cold air, in the high mountains, some places will be below 10 degrees Celsius.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of November 16 to the end of November 18, from Quang Tri to Da Nang , the eastern part of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai provinces will have heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall from 200-400mm, locally over 700mm; Ha Tinh, the eastern part of Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa provinces will have rainfall from 100-250mm, locally over 350mm; the western part of the provinces from Quang Ngai to Dak Lak will have rainfall from 50-100mm, locally over 200mm. Warning of the risk of heavy rain (over 200mm/3 hours).

In addition, in the evening and night of November 16, the Southern region and Lam Dong will have moderate rain and thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain, rainfall from 20-40mm, locally over 80mm. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

Forecast of total rainfall for this period (evening of November 16 - end of November 19): From Quang Tri to Da Nang, East of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai: Rainfall of 300-600mm/period, some places over 850mm/period; Ha Tinh, East of Dak Lak, Khanh Hoa: Rain of 150-350mm/period, some places over 500mm/period; From West of Quang Ngai to Dak Lak: Rain of 100-200mm/period, some places over 350mm/period.

Flood warning on rivers from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa

Currently, the water level on Kien Giang River (Quang Tri), Bo River, Huong River (Hue City) is fluctuating above level 1, other rivers from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa are fluctuating.

From now until November 20, there is a possibility of a flood on rivers from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa. During this flood, the flood peak on Kien Giang River (Quang Tri), Bo River, Huong River (Hue City); Vu Gia-Thu Bon River (Da Nang City); Tra Khuc River, Ve River, Se San River (Quang Ngai); Kon River, upstream Ba River (Gia Lai), downstream Ba River, Ky Lo River (Dak Lak), Dinh Ninh Hoa River (Khanh Hoa) will reach alert level 2-3, some rivers will reach alert level 3; Ngan Sau River, Ngan Pho River (Ha Tinh), Gianh River, Thach Han River (Quang Tri), An Lao River, Lai Giang River (Gia Lai), Krong Ana River, Srepok River (Dak Lak), Cai Phan Rang River, Cai Nha Trang River (Khanh Hoa) will reach alert level 1-2 and above alert level 2.

Risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers, urban areas, and densely populated areas in provinces/cities from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa. High risk of flash floods on rivers and streams and landslides on slopes in provinces/cities from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa. Flood risk warning level: Level 3.

Cold air boost

It is forecasted that around the afternoon and night of November 17, cold air will affect the Northeast and North Central regions, then spread to the Northwest, Central Central and some places in the South Central region. Strong Northeast winds of level 3-4, especially in coastal areas, strong winds of level 4-5.

From November 17-18, the North will have rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places. From the evening and night of November 17, the weather will turn cold in the midlands and deltas of the North and the North Central region; the mountainous areas of the North will be very cold, and some places in the high mountains will be very cold. The lowest temperature in the midlands and deltas of the North and the North Central region will generally be from 12-15 degrees Celsius; in the mountainous areas from 9-12 degrees Celsius, and in the high mountains it may be below 8 degrees Celsius.

Hanoi area from November 17-18 will have rain and showers. From the evening and night of November 17, the weather will turn cold with the lowest temperature from 13-15 degrees Celsius.

The Northwest has some rain; from tomorrow evening there will be rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places. Light wind, cold at night and morning. Lowest temperature 16-19 degrees Celsius, some places below 15 degrees Celsius; highest temperature 25-28 degrees Celsius.

There will also be rain in some places in the Northeast; from tomorrow evening there will be rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places. Northeast wind level 2-3, cold at night and morning. Lowest temperature 19-22 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas below 19 degrees Celsius; highest temperature 25-28 degrees Celsius.

From Thanh Hoa to Hue, the North (Thanh Hoa - Nghe An) has rain in some places at night, rain, showers and thunderstorms during the day; Nghe An in particular has moderate to heavy rain in some places. The South has heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms. North to Northwest wind level 2-3; in the North, cold at night and morning. In the North, there will be moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain; in the South, there will be moderate rain and thunderstorms, in some places heavy to very heavy rain. Lowest temperature 18-21 degrees Celsius; highest 25-28 degrees Celsius, in some places above 28 degrees Celsius.

The South has moderate rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy to very heavy rain. Northeast wind level 2-3. No rain in Hanoi, sunny in the afternoon and evening. From tomorrow evening there will be rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places. Northeast wind level 2-3, cold at night and morning. Lowest temperature 20-22 degrees Celsius; highest 26-28 degrees Celsius.

Ho Chi Minh City has moderate rain and thunderstorms, locally heavy to very heavy rain. Northeast wind level 2-3. During thunderstorms there is a risk of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Lowest temperature 23-26 degrees Celsius; highest 29-32 degrees Celsius.
