Weather on November 15: Cold air strengthens, causing widespread heavy rain, the North turns cold

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on November 15, a strong cold air mass continued to move south and is expected to cause widespread weather fluctuations in the coming days.

Around November 17, cold air will affect the Northeast and North Central regions, then spread to the Northwest and North Central regions. On land, the Northeast wind will gradually increase to level 3-4, coastal areas to level 4-5. From November 17-18, there will be scattered rain in the North; on the night of November 17, the Northern and North Central provinces will turn cold, with some mountainous areas experiencing severe cold with the lowest temperature of 12-15 degrees Celsius, and mountainous areas below 10 degrees Celsius. In Hanoi , the weather will turn cold from the night of November 17, with the lowest temperature of 13-15 degrees Celsius.

Due to the simultaneous impact of the cold air strengthening and the disturbance of the East wind in the upper atmosphere, the area from Ha Tinh to Khanh Hoa experienced continuous heavy rain from November 15 to 18. On November 15, from Ha Tinh to Da Nang there was 10-30mm of rain, locally over 50mm. From the night of November 15 to the night of November 16, from South Quang Tri to Da Nang, from East Quang Ngai to Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa there was heavy to very heavy rain of 100-200mm, locally over 300mm; from Ha Tinh to North Quang Tri there was 60-100mm of rain, locally over 200mm.

From November 17-18, heavy rains occurred in Hue, Da Nang, eastern Quang Ngai and Gia Lai with rainfall of 200-450mm, in some places over 550mm. Total rainfall in some areas could reach 300-600mm, locally exceeding 800mm. From November 19, heavy rains continued from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa. In the South, from November 16-18, moderate rains and thunderstorms occurred, locally very heavy rain of 50-100mm, in some places over 150mm.

Prolonged heavy rains pose a risk of flooding low-lying areas, urban areas and industrial zones; flash floods on small rivers and streams; landslides in mountainous areas. The risk level for natural disasters on land is at level 1, while Hue, Da Nang, eastern Quang Ngai and Gia Lai are at level 2.

At sea, during the day and night of November 15, the North East Sea has strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9; the sea area from Da Nang to Ca Mau and the Southwest East Sea has winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, rough seas. Many areas have thunderstorms, risk of tornadoes and strong gusts. On the night of November 15, the Gulf of Tonkin and the sea area from South Quang Tri to Hue has winds of level 5-6, gusting to level 7; rough seas.

During the day and night of November 16, the North East Sea will continue to have strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9, and waves of 3-5m. The risk of natural disasters at sea is at level 2. Vessels operating in the above-mentioned sea areas are advised to be extremely cautious due to strong winds, large waves, and unusual storms.

From the evening and night of November 17, the Gulf of Tonkin will have strong northeast winds of level 7, sometimes level 8, gusting to level 9; waves 3-5m high, rough seas. The North East Sea will have strong winds of level 7-8, gusting to level 9-10; waves 4-6m high. From November 18, the sea area from Quang Tri to Quang Ngai will have strong winds of level 6-7, gusting to level 8-9, waves 4-6m high.

The north to northwest wind is level 2-3. The early morning and night are cold. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. The lowest temperature is 19-22 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature is 24-27 degrees Celsius.

The North Central Coast region is cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms during the day, moderate to heavy rain at night, and locally very heavy rain and thunderstorms; the South is cloudy with sunny days, scattered showers and thunderstorms in the evening and at night. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. The lowest temperature is 22-25 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature is 26-29 degrees Celsius; in the South, some places are 30-32 degrees Celsius.

The Central Highlands are cloudy and sunny during the day; showers and thunderstorms in some places in the evening and at night; in the North, it is cloudy at night with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Light wind. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Lowest temperature 19-22 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature 27-30 degrees Celsius.

The South is cloudy, sunny during the day, with showers and thunderstorms in some places in the evening and at night. Light wind. Lowest temperature 23-26 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature 30-33 degrees Celsius.

Ho Chi Minh City is cloudy, sunny during the day, no rain at night. Light wind. Lowest temperature 24-26 degrees Celsius. Highest temperature 31-33 degrees Celsius.
