Novak Djokovic entered the Wimbledon 2023 quarterfinals after defeating Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-4 in the fourth round on July 10.
Prior to the match against Djokovic, Hurkacz had not lost a single service game since the start of the tournament. The Polish player maintained this record despite losing two tie-break sets on July 9th, before the match was postponed to today due to the organizers' "curfew" (11 PM London time). When the match resumed on July 10th, Hurkacz successfully held his service games in the third set, and also won the first return game of the match to take the match to a fourth set.
Hurkacz's streak of 21 consecutive service games was broken in the fourth set when he failed to save the third break point in game 7. That was also the only service game Hurkacz lost in the tournament. The 17th seed lost the fourth set 4-6 and was eliminated from Wimbledon by Djokovic.

The match didn't see many rallies, thanks to Hurkacz's excellent serve. The Polish player hit 33 aces throughout the match, achieving an 81% first-serve winning percentage. Djokovic also had 18 aces and an 89% first-serve winning percentage.
Djokovic has won 11 consecutive tie-breaks at Roland Garros and Wimbledon. In the first two sets, Djokovic won the tie-breaks even though his opponent secured a mini-break first. In the first set, Hurkacz even had three set points when leading 6-3 in a tense tie-break but lost five consecutive points and ultimately lost 6-8. Djokovic admitted he was lucky in the tie-break and said the match could have gone differently if his opponent hadn't missed opportunities at crucial moments.
Key events of the Djokovic - Hurkacz match on July 10th.
"I can't remember the last time I had such a hard time returning a serve," Djokovic said after the match. "His serve was so accurate and powerful, one of the best serves in the world. This wasn't really an enjoyable match for me. It was too difficult to read his serve on the fastest surface in this sport ."
Djokovic has won 32 consecutive matches at Wimbledon. Nole's next opponent is Andrey Rublev, who is making his first appearance in the quarterfinals. The two players have met four times before. Djokovic won three of those matches, including a three-set clash at the Australian Open earlier this year.
