While in their opening match, coach Nguyen Cong Thanh's players conceded a 2-3 lead to the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology team, they learned from their mistakes and maintained their advantage in yesterday's match against Quy Nhon University on March 12th.
The defending champions scored the earliest goal of the tournament when Nguyen Van Ha (Quy Nhon University team) scored an own goal in the 22nd second. Just 14 minutes later, Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism took a 3-0 lead. The efforts of the Quy Nhon University players resulted in a goal to reduce the deficit to 1-3 in the 37th minute. However, that was all that coach Thai Binh Thuan's team could do, as they conceded four more goals in the second half.
Thus, the Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism team secured their place in the quarterfinals after winning both of their matches (6 points), while the Quy Nhon University team is at risk of being eliminated in the group stage with no points yet. In the final match of Group C, the Quy Nhon University team will face the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, while the Thanh Hoa University of Culture, Sports and Tourism team will meet the Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education.

Following in the footsteps of the defending champions, the reigning runners-up, Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education, secured a 2-0 victory against Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, thus also securing their place in the quarterfinals. The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology players started confidently, creating a back-and-forth game with Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education, resulting in a stalemate in the first half. A goal early in the second half by Nguyen Van Chien gave Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education the lead. The turning point came in the 44th minute when Le Quang Khang received a red card, leaving Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology playing with ten men and losing control of the game. Nguyen Van Quoc's header in the 62nd minute sealed the 2-0 victory for Da Nang University of Sports and Physical Education. With two wins out of two matches, Coach Tran Trung Kien's team secured their place in the quarterfinals, while Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, though without points, still has a chance to compete for one of the two best third-placed teams.
Today, March 13th, the final round of Group A matches in the THACO Cup 2026 took place between FPT Polytechnic College and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, and Nha Trang University and Ton Duc Thang University. In this group, FPT Polytechnic College and Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry currently have 4 points each, securing their places in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the host team Nha Trang University (2 points) and Ton Duc Thang University (0 points) are striving for a chance to advance. Nha Trang University is guaranteed a quarterfinal spot if they win their final match.
