Quang Ninh Coal Mining Group: Emulating creativity in labor and production.

The Quang Ninh Coal Youth Union has nearly 21,000 members, accounting for almost one-third of the main workforce of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV). Many emulation movements have been enthusiastically embraced by the youth of the coal industry, creating a vibrant atmosphere of labor and production competition and fostering youthful creativity.

Nam Mau Coal Company is one of the exemplary units in the innovation movement within the coal industry. For many years, the Party Committee and the company's leadership have consistently promoted and launched emulation campaigns for technical improvement and production rationalization across all sites and workshops, and have promptly recognized and rewarded outstanding achievements. The company's Youth Union has also actively participated, regularly encouraging its members to boldly propose new, highly feasible ideas stemming from their daily operations.

In response to the "1 Million Initiatives - Overcoming Difficulties, Innovating, and Determination to Win Against the Covid-19 Pandemic" program, over the past two years, the youth of Nam Mau Coal Mine have made outstanding proposals that have benefited the unit and the Group by billions of dong. These include initiatives such as shortening the upper tunnel excavation by 60m, eliminating the need for an additional conveyor system, and significantly reducing the time required to access the upper tunnel to the XV+125 area during construction under extremely difficult conditions for material transportation. Another example is the initiative to clear the upper tunnel from level -50 to +30, and the opening of the coal face tunnel at seam 6 from level +120 to +130 to reduce coal losses. These innovations and improvements are all aimed at serving the common good, namely increasing labor productivity throughout the unit and improving working conditions for workers in various workshops and departments.

Not only at Than Nam Mau, but also across many coal industry units, the enthusiastic and innovative spirit of the Youth Union members is clearly evident. This is an important driving force for TKV to successfully implement many key tasks set out today. Typical examples include promoting the application of the "three modernizations" (mechanization, automation, and informatization), comprehensive digital transformation, occupational safety and health, and environmental protection.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, emulation movements and youth-led projects contributed to TKV's successful achievement of its dual objectives: maintaining production amidst labor shortages due to quarantine and social distancing measures. Companies and workshops also proactively overcame common difficulties when commodity prices rose sharply, affecting the procurement of materials for production and increasing production costs.

Entering 2023, the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union intensified practical activities, contributing to the concretization of the year's theme for TKV's youth: "Accompanying youth in career development and commitment to the profession." During Youth Month 2023, in addition to participating in volunteer activities for the community, the entire union participated in implementing more than 800 youth projects, tasks, and models. Among these were hundreds of technical improvement initiatives and production rationalization projects, along with 37 young talents being recognized. The youth of the Coal Mining Union have demonstrated a pioneering role, setting an example of efficient production and developing practical projects and initiatives to improve equipment and tools, rationalize production lines to meet the requirements of increasing productivity and quality of coal products, saving costs, and improving working conditions...

This shows that the movement to excel in labor and create new skills has been truly developing strongly among young workers and laborers. The ambitions, aspirations to rise up, contribute to building careers, and remain committed to their professions of young people are also strongly encouraged.

In 2023, choosing the theme for the year's work as "Accompanying young people in establishing careers and committing to their profession," the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union at all levels continued to improve the quality of its organization; focusing on educating young people about traditions, ethics, and cultural lifestyles, especially the traditions of the working class in the mining region - the traditions of the coal industry; directing the Youth Union at all levels to continue promoting initiatives, technical improvements, rationalizing production, and applying modern technology...

During Youth Month 2023, the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union admitted 324 new members, bringing the total number of youth union members participating in volunteer activities organized by the Union to 15,594. In the first quarter of 2023, the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Youth Union mobilized youth union members to donate over 300 units of blood; organized a "Green Sunday" event attracting over 3,000 youth union members; and planted nearly 93,000 trees of various types...
