Regional reach

Founded in 2019, VinBrain is one of 6 technology companies in the Vingroup ecosystem. Starting with a charter capital of 30 billion VND, VinBrain focuses on applying artificial intelligence (AI) to solve difficult problems in the medical field, supporting cancer detection and treatment.

VinBrain's "captain", Mr. Truong Quoc Hung, CEO and founder of the company, before returning to Vietnam to start a business, held the position of Director at Microsoft AI. VinBrain is developed on the DrAid platform, supporting doctors in diagnosing and treating liver cancer and rectal cancer based on 33,000 data images from major hospitals in Vietnam, the US, Europe, India, China... creating a highly accurate AI model, certified by international medical standards such as Golden Standard.

Using artificial intelligence technology to assist doctors in detecting, localizing, identifying and describing abnormalities detected. Liver CT helps doctors draw conclusions about abnormalities.

In early 2024, the VinBrain application was selected by the Ministry of Information and Communications to compete at the ASEAN Digital Awards and won the Gold Award. Mr. Truong Quoc Hung shared: “By participating in the ASEAN Digital Awards 2024, VinBrain wants to attract the attention of the international community to join hands in solving the problem of serious diseases. The most special feature of DrAid CT Liver Cancer is that it is one of the few pioneering solutions in the world capable of early screening for small lesions of only 5 mm localized on the liver due to the application of the most advanced machine learning technologies. The DrAid ecosystem also has the presence of an intelligent chatbot - DrAid Copilot, a 24/7 virtual medical assistant exclusively for doctors and managers, the first in Southeast Asia, which is an important step forward when applying AI technology and medical knowledge at the same time…”.

The award is a premise to affirm the reputation of Vietnamese technology products, creating a competitive advantage for domestic enterprises with potential competitors in the region. However, to reach out to the world, the product itself must be widely applied. Therefore, VinBrain focuses on commercializing the product to bring maximum efficiency to doctors, early detection of liver cancer patients; hospitals increase revenue, added value from AI technology, shaping a brighter future for the fight against the disease with the highest incidence rate in Vietnam.

Currently, Liver Cancer has been tested by doctors at Military Hospital 108, Hue Central Hospital and University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City. VinBrain also plans to expand its market internationally, focusing on potential markets such as Indonesia, Singapore, etc.

Confidence in Vietnam's artificial intelligence

CEO Truong Quoc Hung confidently acknowledged that in order to reach out to the world, digital businesses, especially in the field of medical technology, need to have a mindset of investing in the core - the product, in order to create a product that is different from "competitors" or that the market lacks. At the same time, the product must have the highest quality standards to adapt to international standards, requirements from many different markets, including the most demanding markets. In addition, the product must have a positive, sustainable impact on the community to survive and develop sustainably.

“Vietnamese technology enterprises can absolutely reach out to the world, especially in the booming AI revolution. However, investing in technology mastery is a long-term investment, especially AI in the healthcare sector requires large investments. State management agencies play a particularly important role in guiding, introducing and promoting trade exchange opportunities, helping to spread and bring Vietnamese technology products to the international market, encouraging and promoting high-quality investment funds from abroad to cooperate with domestic digital technology enterprises. This not only enhances the reputation of Vietnamese enterprises when State agencies stand up to guarantee and connect, but also speeds up and expands investment attraction opportunities for enterprises with pioneering global digital products,” said Mr. Truong Quoc Hung.

With its successes in AI testing in difficult fields and initial successes in the region, VinBrain has become the unit NVIDIA has chosen as the "base" to implement major AI research projects in Vietnam. The event is assessed by technology experts as creating the premise for Vietnam to become the leading AI research and development center in Asia. The centers not only play a key role in supporting AI initiatives and applications, promoting innovation and startups, but also creating job opportunities for domestic talent.

Mr. Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, frankly said: “To start a new design center, we need great people and VinBrain is an outstanding, extraordinary AI startup in Vietnam. AI is reshaping the entire industry. This is the perfect time for Vietnam to build the future of technology development. AI intelligence is trained from data and Vietnam's data is a national resource. NVIDIA is committed to promoting the development of AI, supporting talent training as well as Vietnamese startup projects”.

In addition to the deal with VinBrain, NVIDIA also launched a strategic cooperation program with FPT Corporation, with an investment of 200 million USD to build an Artificial Intelligence Factory (AI Factory), providing a cloud computing platform for AI research and development and sovereignty in Vietnam, aiming to turn Vietnam into an “AI nation”. FPT Corporation will also train high-quality human resources and become a service development partner in NVIDIA’s global partner network.

Major cooperation programs between major technology companies in the world and Vietnam are shaping the premise to strongly promote the development of AI and semiconductors in 2025, starting the era of national development.
