Preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs

Entering the new phase, in addition to the mechanisms, policies and common action programs of the province, Bac Ninh city also pays special attention to the work of preserving and promoting the value of Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk song heritage.

Teaching activities, restoring traditional performance spaces, and promoting propaganda... are always identified as important and regular tasks of Party committees and authorities to mobilize people to respond and participate more and more widely.

The top priority task is to diversify the forms of heritage promotion and propaganda. The City will develop Quan Ho cultural symbols, travel handbooks, brochures, organize exchange programs, Quan Ho singing, combine Quan Ho folk songs with contemporary music , and art performances... Build a special page and column on Quan Ho culture on the City Party Committee's website, electronic information portal, and City Radio Station. Coordinate with the Provincial Radio and Television Station to organize the production and periodic quarterly broadcast of the Quan Ho singing exchange program on the Full Moon Night...

The city also pays attention to expanding the forms of teaching in 31 original Quan Ho villages and Quan Ho practice clubs. Every year, establish and maintain the activities of young Quan Ho clubs, arouse creativity, promote the role and responsibility of artisans, Lien Anh and Lien Chi in transmitting and organizing various forms of community cultural activities; maintain the program of teaching Bac Ninh Quan Ho folk songs to students of all levels; open Quan Ho singing classes for cadres, civil servants, workers in the community and grassroots art clubs and teams.

In addition, the City also directed localities to strengthen management, guidance and create conditions for units and art clubs to organize diverse activities to preserve Quan Ho cultural heritage. Every year, each ward develops 1-2 Quan Ho clubs, striving for the whole city to have about 40 Quan Ho clubs by 2025; continue to maintain exchange activities between villages, periodically organize "Quan Ho singing on the Full Moon Night" at brothels; organize Quan Ho Club Festivals, Quan Ho performances on boats...

To create performance spaces and expand the environment for heritage practice, Bac Ninh city strives that by 2025, 100% of original Quan Ho villages will have planned land funds to build Quan Ho houses; at least one Quan Ho house will be built each year, ensuring facilities and equipment for this institution to operate effectively. In the immediate future, investment will focus on construction in the wards of Hoa Long, Van An, Kinh Bac, Vu Ninh, Vo Cuong, Khac Niem, Khuc Xuyen, and Phong Khe.

In order to continue to bring new vitality to the heritage, Bac Ninh city always encourages, motivates and respects new experiments and artistic creations with the melody of Quan Ho folk songs. Because it is an activity of great significance, both affirming the eternal value of Quan Ho and enriching, sublimating and enriching the intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Over time, generations of Bac Ninh people have cherished, preserved, taught and given wings to Quan Ho melodies to spread, fly high, and reach out throughout the country, to international friends.

On September 30, 2009, the Quan Ho folk cultural performance form was honored by the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This is a source of pride and a great motivation for Quan Ho folk songs to continue to develop beyond national boundaries and spread widely.
