Assessing the situation on a regional scale, Mr. Vu Chan Hung, Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association and President of the Can Tho City Tourism Association, stated: In recent years, tourism in the Mekong Delta has recovered and developed remarkably, clearly demonstrated by the rapid growth in the number of tourists, service revenue, and the diversification of tourism products. The quality of services has been increasingly invested in and upgraded, contributing to increasing the attractiveness of the destination for domestic and international tourists.
However, alongside the positive results, the region's tourism industry still faces numerous challenges, from climate change and environmental pressures to increasingly demanding tourist expectations and fierce competition among destinations. In this context, the proactive approach of businesses in green transformation coupled with digital transformation is considered essential for the sustainable development of tourism in the Mekong Delta, enhancing added value and long-term competitiveness.
In Can Tho, the tourism hub of the Mekong Delta, the digital transformation initiative is being realized through the synchronized efforts of management agencies and the business community. In fact, many travel businesses have quickly adjusted their development strategies, increased the application of technology, and innovated the interfaces of digital platforms, fan pages, websites, and online tour booking systems to keep pace with the new consumption trends of tourists.
Prominent among them is Vietravel , which officially announced its new brand identity on December 22nd, marking a strategic transformation in its development phase from 2025 to 2035. According to Vietravel, the rebranding is not just about changing visual elements, but a comprehensive repositioning process. This is considered the foundation for the company to enhance its ability to adapt to the rapid changes in the market, the changing behavior of tourists, and the increasingly high demands for quality experiences in the digital age.

Ms. Le Dinh Minh Thy, Director of Vietravel Can Tho Branch, said that along with launching its new brand image, Vietravel will strengthen promotion and implement many stimulus programs and tour discounts, especially for Can Tho and the Southwestern region during the New Year, Lunar New Year, and the Can Tho River Culture Festival taking place from December 27, 2025 to January 1, 2026. The company will also continue to play a pioneering role in building and designing tours in the Mekong Delta, integrating a series of cultural and tourism events and activities into the tour program, thereby creating new and attractive products for tourists visiting Can Tho.
To integrate and lead the way, in the next decade of development, the company is orienting its development around three pillars: Green Business, Digital Business, and Deeply Connected Business. This forms the basis for Vietravel to accelerate digital transformation, personalize travel experiences, improve operational efficiency, and build long-term relationships with customers, partners, and localities, aiming for responsible and sustainable tourism development.
Not only Vietravel, but many tourism businesses in Can Tho and across the country are also gradually renewing their image and modernizing their digital communication channels, such as Mekong Smile, Vietnam Booking, Dat Viet Tour, Saigontourist… This change shows that businesses are gradually shifting from a mindset of "doing tourism" to a mindset of "developing professional, modern, and sustainable tourism," in which digital transformation is considered a key factor.

From a state management perspective, Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, stated that the tourism information portal and the "Can Tho Tourism" smart tourism application on mobile devices are identified as a comprehensive solution to bring Can Tho tourism closer to tourists. In recent times, the connection and data sharing between this information portal and tourism businesses has initially yielded positive results, allowing tourists to easily search for information, services, and products with just a tap.
According to Ms. Dao Thi Thanh Thuy, in the coming time, the city's tourism industry will continue to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies, and work alongside businesses to strengthen communication and mobilize the community to raise awareness about digital transformation. This will encourage businesses and tourists to actively participate in the digitalization process, promote the application of technology in product and tour development, strengthen regional linkages, and expand opportunities for cooperation between businesses within and outside the locality.
In practice, the proactive approach of Can Tho's tourism businesses in digital transformation, from rebranding to applying technology in management and customer service, is making a significant contribution to the recovery and development of local tourism. This is also a step in line with the general trend of Vietnam's tourism industry, aiming to build a smart, modern, and sustainable tourism ecosystem in the new development phase.
