Statistics from Motorcycles Data show that the Vietnamese motorbike market is witnessing remarkable growth in 2025. In August alone, sales increased by 17.4%, bringing the total sales in the first 8 months of the year to 2.08 million units, 15.2% higher than the same period in 2024.
All segments grew: scooters increased by 14.8%, manual motorbikes increased by 65.6%. In particular, electric motorbikes exploded with an increase of 89% in segment L1 (under 50cc) and 197% in segment L3 (over 50cc).

The breakthrough of electric motorbikes is associated with the green consumption trend, along with incentive policies from the government and strategies of companies. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City have announced a roadmap to limit and eventually ban gasoline vehicles, creating momentum for the transition to electric vehicles.
Among the brands, VinFast recorded an impressive growth of 447% by the end of August 2025, continuing to hold the No. 1 position in the market. The company is constantly expanding its product portfolio, from cars equipped with 2 batteries to large-scale battery swapping systems.
Yadea ranked second with a growth rate of 41.5%, highlighted by its trade-in programs and discounts on electric vehicles for the back-to-school season. In addition, Dibao and Pega also recorded positive results, contributing to the excitement of the market.

In contrast to the rise of electric vehicles, traditional gasoline car manufacturers are starting to face difficulties. Honda sales increased by only 6.3%, while Yamaha's decreased by 8.6%. In August 2025, Honda sold 154,599 vehicles, down more than 21% compared to July and down 13.4% compared to the same period in 2024.
Honda currently distributes two electric motorbike models: Icon e: for students and CUV e: in the higher-end segment, deployed in the form of rental at a cost of 1.5 million VND/month, with free battery exchange service. According to the plan, from fiscal year 2026, Honda will expand its electric motorbike portfolio to keep up with the trend.

With impressive growth rates, Vietnam is currently the third largest electric motorbike consumption market in the world. Experts say that the electrification trend will continue to dominate, especially when charging station and battery swapping station infrastructure is increasingly complete. This is also a great opportunity and challenge for traditional car manufacturers in the new competition.
