TPO – Hanoi City People's Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh stated that currently, the revenue of Hanoi's craft villages reaches approximately 1 billion USD, accounting for 1/50 of the value of Hanoi's total production; creating jobs for hundreds of thousands of workers in rural areas.
On the morning of July 5th, the Hanoi City People's Committee organized a dialogue to address difficulties and promote production and business for enterprises, cooperatives, and production households in craft villages within the city.
According to the Hanoi People's Committee, there are currently 1,350 craft villages and villages with crafts in the city, including 331 recognized traditional craft villages and villages. The revenue of these craft villages is estimated at over 24,000 billion VND per year.
Some craft villages have high revenues, such as: Son Dong fine art sculpture; La Phu confectionery and knitting; Minh Khai agricultural product and food processing (My Duc district); Phung Xa agricultural machinery; Huu Bang village carpentry and tailoring (Thach That district); Thiet Ung fine art (Dong Anh district); Gie Thuong and Gie Ha villages, Phu Yen commune (Phu Xuyen district)...

According to Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Quang Quyen, during the preparation for the dialogue conference, the city's functional agencies received, compiled, and filtered more than 50 opinions and recommendations from 59 businesses, cooperatives, and production entities, focusing on three groups of issues: Planning, infrastructure, tourism and environment of craft villages; mechanisms and policies to support craft villages; and science and technology, trade promotion, branding, and regional raw material linkages.
At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong, representative of Hien Luong Export Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Company Limited (Phu Tuc commune, Phu Xuyen district), expressed her desire for the city to address difficulties, especially regarding production space; support trade promotion abroad, particularly to the Hong Kong (China) market; and facilitate access to preferential loan sources.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Director of Phu Thanh Phat Co., Ltd. (Van Tu commune, Phu Xuyen district), raised the issue that the workforce in traditional craft villages is currently mainly composed of elderly people and farmers, with production being passed down from father to son, and lacking formal training.
"I propose that the city support vocational training programs to improve technical skills and craftsmanship, and encourage people to participate in learning, producing, and practicing traditional crafts," Mr. Thanh stated.
