However, this blockbuster failed to meet Disney's expectations, both in terms of box office revenue and audience reception. Controversies surrounding the casting of Rachel Zegler – a Latina actress – as Snow White, along with changes to the storyline and CGI effects, seem to have significantly impacted the film's box office performance.

In the domestic market

In the Vietnamese market, Snow White ranked second at the box office in its opening week, but only earned 5.7 billion VND with over 53,000 tickets sold. This achievement is quite modest compared to expectations for a big-budget blockbuster. Meanwhile, the 18+ horror film *The Corpse Possessed* continued to hold the top spot even in its third week, raking in 11.4 billion VND last weekend (nearly 130,000 tickets), bringing its total revenue to nearly 140 billion VND, according to Box Office Vietnam data.

The remaining spots in the top 5 of the Vietnamese box office include *The Hilarious Assassin* (3.8 billion VND over the weekend, total over 30 billion VND), *The Unbelievably Difficult Profession* (3.3 billion VND), and *The Death Pit* (2.6 billion VND over the weekend, total 30 billion VND). The Vietnamese box office market is currently in a low season, making the revenue of *Snow White* even less impressive.

In North America and international markets

In North America, Snow White only grossed $43 million in its opening week, becoming one of Disney's worst-performing live-action premieres. This figure is significantly lower than other remakes such as Beauty and the Beast ($174.6 million), The Little Mermaid ($95.5 million), Maleficent ($69.4 million), or Cinderella ($67.8 million). Internationally, the film fared no better, earning only $44.3 million, bringing its total global revenue after the first three days to $87.3 million. According to Deadline, this is "a lackluster start" for a project with a huge budget, unlikely to achieve the "happy ending" Disney hoped for.

However, some opinions from Hollywood Reporter suggest it's still too early to conclude it's a failure. With its familiar brand and the lack of competing family films, Snow White still has the potential to improve its box office in the future, similar to Mufasa: The Lion King (2024), which started with $35 million but later surpassed $700 million globally. Currently, the film is leading the North American box office this past weekend, surpassing rivals like Black Bag and Captain America: Brave New World.
