Vietnam is a country whose economy and culture are closely linked to the sea. The Central Coastal region is considered a place that has created and preserved maritime cultural values. Since ancient times, people in coastal areas have used various fishing gear to exploit marine resources for their lives. The Fishing Gear Museum currently displays over 100 artifacts representing the fishing industry, divided into five groups: seine fishing gear (various types of gillnets), filter fishing gear (seine nets, purse nets, trawl nets), trawling gear (various types of trawl nets), fixed and trap fishing gear (traps, cage traps, etc.), and longline fishing gear, along with other tools such as storm lamps, compasses, and fishing boat models.

Besides specimens collected or modeled by the faculty and staff of the Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology, many specimens have been collected by generations of students, including traditional fishing gear that is at risk of disappearing. Many fishing tools no longer exist, but teachers and students have researched information and documents to restore them.
One of the most time-consuming exhibit groups to set up was the model of the river and sea topography, where various fishing tools representing the rudimentary fishing methods used by our ancestors were arranged. Based on information and knowledge about the waters, the institute's staff and lecturers researched and represented the fishing industry by associating characteristic fishing tools with different types of water – saltwater and freshwater, shallow and deep – from familiar items like the traditional fish trap to miniature models of fishing net systems in various regions. This model also gives museum visitors a comprehensive view of the nation's fishing industry from the past to the present.
Currently, the Fisheries Equipment Museum is regularly updated with information and preserves documents and artifacts collected both domestically and internationally, with the aim of supporting training, scientific research, and disseminating information about the fishing industry. It is also an interesting tourist destination about the fishing industry in Vietnam.
