According to artisan Doan Minh Ngoc, owner of the Phu Lang jade pottery production facility, market demand has changed significantly compared to the past. While still using pottery products, consumers are more discerning, choosing designs that are both modern and retain the essence and beauty of ancient times.
Therefore, for this year's Tet season, Ms. Ngoc has researched and designed new product lines such as ceramic horses, multi-functional health-promoting ceramics, and earthenware wine vases... with unique, one-of-a-kind products for the market.
Over 1,000 horse designs were submitted, and for three months the pottery workshop was constantly busy producing prototypes, selecting colors, and creating patterns for customers to experience.
The "Happy Fat Horse" product symbolizes prosperity, abundance, and peace – representing the wishes of every Vietnamese family during the Lunar New Year. To date, the workshop has supplied more than 1,500 horses to the market, featuring traditional motifs such as bronze drums, cranes, and the Quan Ho folk culture of Kinh Bac...
In addition, Ms. Ngoc has researched and produced multi-functional health-promoting ceramic products to launch for the market this Tet holiday. These include incense burners and incense holders for worship spaces, tea sets for enjoying tea in the living room, and unique ceramic vases with distinctive glazes, honoring the beauty of all spring flowers...
At Dai Bai copper craft village, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam - owner of Nam Yen Copper Art Workshop - introduced new products for this year's Tet season: potted orchids, apricot blossoms, and peach blossoms made of copper, gilded, and entirely handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Having just finished a 2.5-meter-tall orchid pot, Mr. Nam said that this artwork was the result of the diligent work of more than a dozen artisans over the past three months.
Not only is it large in size, but the complexity and intricacy of the product, especially the orchid petals, require meticulous attention to detail, so artisans have to spend a lot of time and effort carving them. "The unique characteristic of Dai Bai bronze is the skillful casting technique and the exquisite carving art, all done entirely by hand, resulting in a high level of sophistication," Mr. Nam said.
