The event took place at the Regional Culinary Festival, Culinary Competition, and Vietnam Record Establishment organized by Vinh Long province. This is one of the activities in the first Vinh Long Province Red Ceramic and Green Economy Festival in 2024. The competition attracted 20 teams from units under the Vinh Long Provincial Women's Union, participating with more than 110 dishes made from and served with tofu skin from My Hoa commune, Binh Minh town. In the competition, the participants all strived their best and demonstrated skill and creativity in each dish. Each team contributed to creating a unique and impressive story, bringing pride to the traditional tofu skin making craft of My Hoa commune, Binh Minh town; thereby honoring the labor achievements, cultural values, and spirit of the people of My Hoa commune in particular, and Vinh Long province in general. Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan Ha, from the My Hoa Commune Women's Union team in Binh Minh town, said: “All the dishes at the event contain tofu skin. Besides cooked, fried, and stir-fried dishes, we also came up with the idea of ​​decorating them beautifully with flowers, branches, leaves, or even suspension bridges… made from tofu skin. Hopefully, through this competition, dishes made from tofu skin will become more widely known…”. Culinary culture artisan Ho Dac Thieu Anh, a member of the Advisory Council of the Vietnam Record Organization, shared: “Looking at each team's menu, I am very impressed. The participants are very dedicated to introducing products from their region, showcasing delicious and nutritious dishes to spread the color and value of Vinh Long tofu skin.” According to artisan Ho Dac Thieu Anh, the competition also creates a beneficial playground, providing opportunities for exchange and fostering creativity for those who love culinary arts. This is also an opportunity for chefs to showcase their creativity, acting as "culinary ambassadors" to convey the values ​​of their local cuisine to friends both domestically and internationally...
The tofu skin making village of My Hoa commune, Binh Minh town, Vinh Long province, has existed for nearly a century. With over 20 households, this village produces more than 3 tons of various tofu skin products daily, including: large tofu skin sheets; soft tofu skin; dried and soft tofu skin strips; salted tofu skin, etc. The main ingredient is clean, chemical-free soybeans, making the product very nutritious and suitable for vegetarians, dieters, and people of all ages. My Hoa tofu skin is not only a popular dish in everyday meals but also features on the menus of upscale restaurants. As one of the traditional craft villages of Vinh Long province, in 2013, the My Hoa Tofu Skin Making Village in Binh Minh town was recognized by the Intellectual Property Office ( Ministry of Science and Technology ) as a collective trademark for "My Hoa-Binh Minh Tofu Skin". In 2017, My Hoa-Binh Minh tofu skin was awarded the Outstanding Product of the Mekong Delta. In 2023, the craft of making My Hoa-Binh Minh tofu skin was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. According to Nguyen Xuan Hoanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province, this event further affirms the value of the craft village's products, brand, and the contributions of the artisans throughout history; contributing to the stronger promotion of the My Hoa-Binh Minh tofu skin brand to domestic and international consumers. Vinh Long also hopes to attract more tourists to the province's craft villages, including the tofu skin making village, in order to promote the value of intangible cultural heritage in the province...
