Good models

To spread the reading movement, many good reading models have been deployed to stimulate readers' reading needs. For many years, Hoi An people have been familiar with the reading activities of Ms. Khieu Thi Hoai, an officer of the Hoi An Center for Cultural Heritage Management and Preservation, and co-founder of the Hoi An Reading Space Group.

Initially, Ms. Hoai organized reading activities and free book lending for children on weekends with the hope of spreading the reading habit to children. Then, she switched to reading activities to inspire parents and children. This activity is not fixed at any location.

It could be in the lobby of a museum with a wide porch, in an old house in the city, a coffee shop, reading under the shade of bamboo at Thanh Ha terracotta park, reading at Cam Pho communal house... According to Ms. Hoai, with these open reading spaces, others can see the image of reading, inspiring many people, spreading the habit of reading every day, contributing to bringing profound knowledge values to readers, especially in the current era of technology and social network development.

Not only serving readers on-site every day, local libraries also actively implement many activities to develop a diverse, lively and close-to-the-community reading culture. In the city, from wards and communes in the suburbs to the mountains, new reading spaces are gradually taking shape.

Every year, libraries organize hundreds of activities to spread reading culture: Book festivals, reading culture ambassador contests, storytelling sessions, discussions introducing authors and works; mobile library buses regularly roll to each school, carrying thousands of books, comics, and magazines, bringing knowledge to every rural area.

Teacher Tran Thi Nhan, Principal of Ngo Si Lien Primary School (Lien Chieu Ward) shared that every year, the Da Nang General Science Library brings a mobile library to the school. The mobile library is fully equipped with equipment and books to serve students and teachers from reading books and newspapers in the traditional way to experiencing interaction with books, reading e-books, experiencing the Let's Read digital library (Asia Foundation)...

“The children were excited to explore the mobile library, find good stories, new books, explore electronic devices… Seeing that scene, I felt very happy. I think the mobile library is not just a means of bringing books to readers but is also contributing to creating a meaningful cultural space, inspiring a love of reading and learning in the community,” Ms. Nhan expressed.

To spread books to readers, Quang Nam Library regularly serves mobile libraries at schools and community reading points, especially in remote, isolated and mountainous areas in communes and wards. In 2024, Quang Nam Library will serve 40 mobile points (an increase of 17.6% compared to 2023), 22,375 readers (an increase of 70%), and 46,760 books in circulation (an increase of 19.43% compared to 2023).

In the first six months of 2025, the library also provided mobile services at 34 locations, with 18,330 readers accessing this service, with 54,900 books and newspapers circulated.
