Celebrating the Thai New Year in Northwest Vietnam
The New Year of the Thai people in Northwest Vietnam, also known as Kin Muong, is one of the most unique and distinctive festivals of the year. Unlike the Kinh people, the Thai people in Northwest Vietnam celebrate the Lunar New Year according to their own calendar. During the New Year celebrations, the Thai people often organize many recreational activities such as singing and dancing with the khene (a traditional wind instrument), bamboo pole dancing, tug-of-war, and throwing the ball. This is an opportunity for everyone in the village to gather together, have fun, and share joy.
