Accompanying disadvantaged children

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Due to many different reasons, in the province there are still many children who have to face poverty, illness, disability or loss of parental support. In these uncertain steps, the Social Work Center - Thanh Hoa Children's Protection Fund (hereinafter referred to as the center) is always there, providing timely practical support, helping children have more opportunities to study and grow up.

Accompanying disadvantaged children

Representatives of sponsoring units awarded scholarships to disadvantaged children in Bien Thuong commune.

At the Bien Thuong Commune People's Committee Hall, the atmosphere became more bustling than ever when nearly 40 children stepped forward to receive scholarships from the center and its partners. On their faces, there were clear smiles mixed with shyness, filled with joy. For them, scholarships are not only material gifts, but also open up opportunities to continue going to school, have more books, new clothes or warm shoes for the upcoming school year.

Nguyen Van Khanh, a 5th grader who lost both his parents, shyly shared: "I'm very happy, with this money I will buy books, I will try to study hard". Sharing the same joy with Khanh, Lo Van Hung, a 6th grader at Thuong Xuan Secondary School, happily hugged a backpack that still smelled new, next to a bicycle. Hung hesitantly confided: "I'm very happy, from now on I have a bike to go to school, I don't have to walk anymore. I will study harder so as not to let everyone down". For the children, these seemingly simple gifts are a great source of happiness, making going to school less difficult, making the learning journey more hopeful. Behind each bike, each backpack is the love of the community, giving more motivation for poor children to overcome difficulties.

Since the beginning of the year, the center has implemented a series of practical support activities, creating a deep impression in the work of caring for, protecting and accompanying children in special circumstances in the province. With a total budget of nearly 2.4 billion VND, of which more than 1.3 billion VND was mobilized from the center and sponsors, the center has promptly brought sharing, spiritual encouragement and material assistance to more than 4,000 children. That number is not only specific support, but also clear evidence of the spread of love and community responsibility.

The highlight of the series of activities is the "Happy Noodle Package" program, which donated 57,915 instant noodle packages to 1,287 boarding students in the mountainous districts of Muong Lat, Quan Son and Lang Chanh (old), worth 246 million VND. Along with that, hundreds of vitamin D3K2 packages were sent to poor children, more than 1,000 boxes of nutritional milk were distributed to 534 children in many localities, hospitals and social assistance facilities, with a total value of up to 734 million VND. In addition to nutrition, the center also coordinated with Operation Smile Vietnam (OSV) to screen and bring dozens of children with facial deformities to Hanoi E Hospital for free surgery, giving them the opportunity to integrate and gain confidence.

Along with health care is the concern for education. The center has awarded 192 scholarships to students in special circumstances with a total value of nearly 200 million VND; donated 470 backpacks and 16 bicycles to poor but studious children, helping them have more favorable conditions to go to school. In particular, the center also sponsored 2 children with serious illnesses for a long time, giving them more motivation to persevere in their studies. On the occasion of holidays, Tet, and the Month of Action for Children, more than 1,100 children in many localities, social protection facilities and Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital were visited, given gifts and timely encouragement. Along with that, the center also provided emergency support for children who had accidents, injuries, and drowning, thereby sharing difficulties with their families and helping them have a spiritual support.

Along with direct support, the center also focuses on investing in long-term projects. During the Month of Action for Children, the center has planned to implement 3 clean water projects in mountainous areas, 2 solar energy projects in remote villages, with a total cost of more than 300 million VND. This is not only a material gift but also a solution to improve the quality of life and study for children in disadvantaged areas. This result is thanks to the joint efforts of the community - by the end of June 2025, the center had mobilized more than 1.289 billion VND from organizations, businesses, charitable individuals and the Vietnam Children's Fund.

Mr. Lai The Quang, Deputy Director of the Center, shared: “On every gift-giving trip, we see joy in the children's eyes. It is not only material, but also spiritual encouragement, helping them believe that they are not left behind. That is also the reason why we make more efforts in mobilizing resources and implementing sponsorship programs”. In the coming time, the center will continue to implement many practical activities such as awarding scholarships and bicycles on the occasion of the opening ceremony, building more clean water projects and solar lights in mountainous areas, and organizing visits and giving gifts on holidays and Tet and supporting surgeries for children with congenital disabilities. “The support numbers are just the tip of the iceberg, the greater value is the belief and determination that the center and sponsors bring, so that every child has the opportunity to be loved, learn and grow up in the loving arms of the community”, Mr. Quang added.
