When mentioning Dong Thap, tourists immediately think of the vibrant Sa Dec flower village, Tram Chim National Park teeming with egrets and herons in its melaleuca forests, or the renowned craft villages along the tranquil Tien River.

But that's not all. Dong Thap also has eco-tourism areas that evoke the atmosphere of the countryside, with local specialties that everyone craves when they think of them.

Currently, Dong Thap has several national heritage craft villages such as: Long Khanh A commune's shawl weaving village (Hong Nguy district); Dinh An and Dinh Yen commune's mat weaving villages (Lap Vo district); Long Hau commune's boat and canoe making village (Lai Vung district); Lai Vung's fermented pork sausage making village (Lai Vung district); and Sa Dec rice flour making village (Sa Dec city).

Visiting traditional craft villages, tourists can gain a deeper understanding of how the people of Dong Thap adapted to the natural conditions and, through their creativity, created once-famous traditional crafts. Today, these crafts are preserved, inherited, and their value continues to be promoted by successive generations.

According to Mr. Huynh Thanh Chon, deputy head of the Culture and Information Department of Hong Ngu district, the Long Khanh A shawl weaving village currently has 62 households, supplying an average of 2 million products to the market each year.

"Besides traditional scarves, people have also created products such as traditional blouses, long dresses, hats, handbags, embroidered scarves, etc."

"Since the craft village was recognized as a national heritage site in 2023, many domestic and international tourist groups have come to visit and observe the traditional hand-weaving and modern machine-weaving methods of shawls (checkered scarves). In addition, visitors also go to Long Khanh A islet to visit the fruit orchards and ancient houses there," Mr. Chon said.

When mentioning Dong Thap province, tourists remember Sa Dec Flower Village, which displays its beauty in all four seasons, and Tram Chim National Park, which remains lush and green throughout the year.

Especially from the beginning of January each year, the time when many gardeners prepare for the biggest Tet flower season of the year, tourists coming to Sa Dec not only dress up in dresses and ao dai to take photos but also buy ornamental flowers to display during Tet.

Visitors are captivated when they come to Tram Chim National Park, where the unique forest ecosystem remains lush and cool all year round. Water birds, egrets, and herons usually gather in the largest numbers during the breeding season from June to August; some other species come to nest and breed from February to March. Therefore, Tram Chim is teeming with birds year-round, attracting domestic and international tourists to enjoy the scenery and take beautiful photos.

In 2024, Dong Thap province is expected to welcome 4.3 million tourists, including 39,000 international visitors, generating revenue of 2,170 billion VND. Tram Chim National Park and Nguyen Sinh Sac Historical Site were honored among the top 50 attractive tourist destinations in Ho Chi Minh City and the 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta.
