Unique rural market on the islet
Attending the rural market in Tan Thuan Dong islet (Cao Lanh city, Dong Thap) taking place from noon to afternoon every Saturday, visitors will feel the simple, rustic features in the tourism of Dong Thap province.
The market space does not have luxury goods. There are only a few vegetables, bunches of fruits, fish, snails caught in the garden of the local people to bring to the market to invite tourists. There are countless types of traditional cakes, such as banh xeo, banana cake, processed on the spot, hot and fragrant... Many dishes cost less than 10,000 VND, buyers and sellers are happy, there is no haggling. Near the market is a space for exchange, performance of traditional music, Dong Thap folk songs, along with many joyful and meaningful folk games... becoming an attractive destination for tourists to the land of pink lotus on weekends.

In order to find a unique model with the unique features of the Mekong Delta, since December 2022, Cao Lanh City has launched a rural market space in Tan Thuan Tay islet, recreating the old market scene. The rustic and interesting features of Tan Thuan Dong islet rural market have attracted a large number of domestic and foreign visitors.

From the Tan Thuan Dong rural market, up to now, Dong Thap has developed many similar rural tourism market models, each with its own unique characteristics: Go Thap (Thap Muoi District), Long Thuan Islet (Hong Ngu District), Tram Chim (Tam Nong District), Xom Ray market (Cao Lanh District)... These models not only contribute to improving economic efficiency but also enrich the local community tourism ecosystem.

Green, friendly and sustainable destination
With the tourism development motto "Dong Thap is as pure as the soul of lotus", typical destinations such as Sa Dec flower village, Xeo Quyt, Gao Giong, Tram Chim National Park... are effectively exploited, associated with ecological conservation. Traditional craft villages associated with typical indigenous cultural values are put into exploitation to serve tourism such as Dinh Yen communal house recreating the space of Dinh Yen mat market (Lap Vo district), and the silk weaving village (Hong Ngu district). The province has established an integrated tourism model of "agriculture - ecology - experience", creating its own mark, gradually affirming Dong Thap as a "green", friendly and sustainable" destination.
To develop tourism into an important economic sector, Dong Thap has gradually exploited the potential and advantages of natural conditions, historical and cultural relics, ancient houses, traditional craft villages, etc. to develop tourism. From there, the total number of tourists in the period of 2021 - 2024 is estimated to reach over 18.5 million, an average increase of 26%/year, including 110,000 international visitors and total revenue from tourism is estimated to reach over 8,500 billion VND.
