Today's USD exchange rate (April 17): Early morning on April 17, the State Bank of Vietnam announced that the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the USD increased by 8 dong, currently at 24,899 dong.
Meanwhile, in the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the fluctuations of the US dollar against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), fell 0.94% to 99.28.

The US dollar continued to fall in the last trading session as traders awaited to see whether the administration of US President Donald Trump would reach new trade agreements with its partners.

The US dollar fell last week amid concerns about the economic impact of new tariffs.
The U.S. is currently in discussions with countries including Japan, while tensions between China and the U.S. are rising.
US President Donald Trump said he would personally attend a meeting of Japanese and US trade officials. Meanwhile, South Korean Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok will meet with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent next week to discuss trade issues.
US Vice President JD Vance said on April 16 that it was highly likely the US and the UK would reach a major trade agreement. However, any trade deals with China and the European Union were expected to take much longer to achieve.
On April 15, President Trump ordered an investigation into potential new tariffs on all key mineral imports into the United States, aiming to pressure China, the industry leader.
US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said on April 16 that US economic growth appears to be slowing, with modest increases in consumer spending, and a surge in imports to avoid tariffs could impact estimates of gross domestic product and consumer sentiment.
"The Fed is waiting for further developments before making any moves on interest rates," said Robert Pavlik, senior portfolio manager at Dakota Wealth.
Powell also suggested that the hope was that the US central bank would intervene to curb market volatility.
US data released on April 16 showed that US retail sales surged in March as households increased their purchases of motor vehicles ahead of tariffs.
Conversely, the EUR closed the trading session up 0.84%, reaching $1.1376, remaining below its three-year high of $1.1473.
The US dollar fell 0.71% against the Japanese yen, to 142.22 after earlier reaching 142.03. The dollar also declined 1% against the Swiss franc, to 0.815.
Meanwhile, the British pound fell 0.07% to 1.3221, after earlier reaching a six-month high of 1.3292.
The Canadian dollar rose 0.5% against the US dollar, reaching 1.39, after the Bank of Canada kept its key policy interest rate unchanged at 2.75%, the first pause after seven consecutive cuts, and indicated it would be ready to take decisive action if necessary to control inflation.
Similarly, the AUD also rose 0.35% against the USD, reaching 0.6365 and earlier touching 0.6391, its highest level since February 24.

Today's domestic USD exchange rate
On the domestic market, at the beginning of trading on April 17, the State Bank of Vietnam announced that the central exchange rate of the Vietnamese Dong against the US Dollar increased by 8 dong, currently standing at 23,899 dong.
