Here, two artists Tran Hai Minh and Tran Luu My introduced to the public 60 large-scale abstract paintings, their latest creations.

"Movement and Stillness" has many large-sized works: 2.4mx2.4m; 2.4mx1.8m; popular works are 1.6mx1.7m in size and some small paintings are 80x80cm in size.

Tran Hai Minh is an experienced painter. Born in 1962, he was a student at the Vietnam University of Fine Arts and later won a scholarship to the Berlin Academy of Arts (Germany).

Seven years of studying in this environment helped artist Tran Hai Minh discover many interesting things in the field of painting. He lived and passionately painted for many years in Berlin. Currently, the artist works in Ho Chi Minh City.

Since 1986, Tran Hai Minh has chosen to pursue abstract expressionism. Up to now, he has achieved many successes in painting and is a well-known face in the art world.

Meanwhile, painter Tran Luu My graduated from the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema and has been persistently pursuing his painting career. As the eldest son of the late painter Tran Luu Hau, he inherited his painting ability from his famous father. However, to overcome his father's shadow, Tran Luu My struggled a lot to find his own path, a path that he was passionate about and spent a lot of effort to research and experiment.

Thanks to the ups and downs of life, Tran Luu My has come to the spirit of Buddhism, by feeling and practicing a slow, peaceful lifestyle. Tran Luu My has put that spirit into his paintings, creating meditative works, helping viewers to calm down and feel life in a peaceful corner.

Titled "Movement and Stillness", the group exhibition by artists Tran Luu My and Tran Hai Minh brings to the audience two opposing states that appear in the same gallery. That is strength and decisiveness combined with calmness and slowness.

If Tran Hai Minh paints like "pouring fire onto the canvas", strong color blocks, brushstrokes bursting out like storms of emotions, with long, strong, decisive brush strokes and suppressing body energy... then Tran Luu My paints with stillness. There, colors are restrained to the point of almost fading away from the image, the image dissolves to create a meditative void.

The acrylic streaks, light and dark, big and small, long and short, fall on the canvas like calligraphy traces, each brush stroke seems to be waiting for a silent echo from the viewer.

Associate Professor, Doctor Do Lai Thuy commented: "Bodies, both bones and spirits, Tran Luu My's paintings can be described as "bland", but "bland is weak water". The colors of My's paintings are deep, he prefers cold tones. Like water flowing through forests with dark leaves or a sky drenched in black. But here and there, orange or light blue scarves still hang, as if by chance, absentmindedly".

Although they belong to two opposing poles, the two artists meet in that they both delve into the unconscious, awakening the most primitive energy of contemporary abstract painting. They do not depict the outside world realistically, but open up the inner world - deep, multi-layered and inviting.

Critic Tran Huy Man commented that the exhibition is not only a highlight in the contemporary art life of Vietnam, but also a milestone affirming that Vietnamese abstract paintings have an independent, profound and powerful language.

Impressive work by Tran Luu My.

This is a rare opportunity for art lovers, collectors, galleries and the public to approach two distinct but equally strong and rich voices.

In the wave of globalization of contemporary art, artists like Tran Hai Minh and Tran Luu My are rare. They show us that: Abstract expressionism is not a formal aesthetic, but an existential gesture.

The exhibition ends on July 13.
