As the world enters the era of the creative economy and digital entertainment, games are no longer just a form of entertainment but have become a highly effective means of transmitting knowledge and culture, especially to the younger generation.
In fact, many countries have successfully spread their history and culture through video games. Historical settings, folk legends, and heroic figures are recreated in the virtual world , allowing players to both experience and explore knowledge. Therefore, developing games based on Vietnamese history and culture not only contributes to enriching the domestic game market but can also become a way to bring Vietnamese identity to the world.
However, to achieve the goal of training 5,000 or more personnel for this field, comprehensive and groundbreaking solutions are needed.
Developing historical and cultural games is a specialized field, requiring a combination of technology and social science . A game developer needs not only programming or graphic design skills, but also an understanding of history, culture, storytelling, and player psychology.
Therefore, game training programs need to be designed in an interdisciplinary way, combining information technology, digital art, game design, interactive scriptwriting, and knowledge of Vietnamese history and culture.
The gaming industry is changing rapidly, so workforce training needs to be closely linked to practical production. Universities should strengthen cooperation with game companies to build training models that are connected to real-world projects. Students should not only learn theory but also participate in game projects, becoming familiar with the production, design, and distribution processes of products.
To develop games based on Vietnamese history and culture, a creative ecosystem needs to be formed, comprising many components: game developers, historians, cultural experts, artists, designers, and technology companies.
The government can provide support by building digital databases on heritage, history, and culture; encouraging game projects that utilize Vietnamese content; organizing competitions for creating historical games; and supporting studios in developing products with national identity.
Previously, developing a complete game required a large team of programmers, 3D artists, character designers, scriptwriters, and sound engineers. But with new AI tools, many processes can now be assisted or automated. Therefore, game development programs need to quickly incorporate modules on AI generative applications, helping students learn how to use AI to develop ideas, design virtual worlds, and tell historical stories through interactive means.
In the digital age, every nation needs new "cultural ambassadors." While in the past these were books, films, or music, today interactive games are becoming a powerful storytelling medium for the younger generation.
Training human resources for game development therefore aims not only to build an entertainment industry, but also to prepare a creative force capable of telling the stories of the nation using the technological language of the era.
If done well, the legends, heroic deeds, and spiritual values of the nation will not only remain in books, but will come alive in the digital world – where young people can step into history, experience history, and feel a deeper sense of pride in their origins.
