In recent days, the treatment area of the Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Department has been frequently crowded with patients coming for exercises, treatment of musculoskeletal disorders, and rehabilitation after strokes. Among them are many elderly people, patients with motor paralysis, or those with spinal pain requiring long-term treatment.
Mr. Nguyen Chuan, a resident of Phu Loc commune, said that after more than two years of paralysis due to a stroke, receiving treatment locally has made it much more convenient for him in terms of daily travel and exercise. "Before, going to the city for treatment was quite difficult, but now there's a place to exercise near home, so it's much easier," Mr. Chuan shared.
Like Mr. Chuan, Ms. Tran Thi Lai, residing in Loc An commune, expressed her delight that the health sector invested in building a new Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Center, allowing people to receive treatment closer to home and save costs. “I have suffered from spinal degeneration for many years. Previously, I often went to private traditional medicine practitioners for treatment, which was quite expensive. Now, treatment here is convenient because it's close to home and 100% of the costs are covered by health insurance.”
According to observations at the Department, instead of being transferred to Hue City as before, many patients now choose to receive long-term treatment locally. Regular monitoring helps patients recover more easily, especially in cases of stroke or musculoskeletal diseases requiring continuous treatment.
Currently, the Department of Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation simultaneously implements various forms of examination and treatment, including outpatient examination, inpatient treatment, and rehabilitation. Several specialized techniques have been enhanced, including electroacupuncture, massage and acupressure, electrostimulation, and physical therapy. According to doctors, many techniques have initially shown positive results for conditions such as neck and shoulder pain, spinal degeneration, and rehabilitation of mobility after strokes.
According to Dr. Nguyen Loi, Head of the Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Department at Phu Loc Medical Center, the department currently has 13 staff members, including doctors, medical assistants, nurses, and technicians, capable of serving over 50 inpatients and outpatients. This is a very favorable condition, allowing patients to feel secure receiving treatment close to home.
According to Dr. Le Viet Cuong, Director of Phu Loc Medical Center, the center will continue to develop its Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Department in a specialized direction, gradually investing in modern equipment to expand treatment for all disease groups, with a focus on children with language disorders and autism, and improving the effectiveness of rehabilitation in the locality. The center is also proposing that the Hue City health department supplement its workforce with specialized personnel to better meet the increasing healthcare needs of the people. Simultaneously, it is working with the People's Committees of the communes and health stations in Phu Loc and Nam Dong areas to introduce the new functions of the Traditional Medicine and Rehabilitation Department to create interconnectedness in patient referral.
Gradually improving rehabilitation capacity at the grassroots level not only makes treatment more convenient for people but also helps reduce the burden of travel and costs for many families. Given the increasing demand for rehabilitation, especially for the elderly and children requiring early intervention, investing in this field at the local level is considered a necessary direction to improve the quality of community healthcare.
