The entire doping testing process will be conducted by experienced officers from the Institute of Criminal Science - Ministry of Public Security . In addition, the VFF Medical Committee will also conduct supplementary random or scheduled health checks for players to screen for risks of injury, cardiovascular problems, or detect abnormal indicators… This process is carried out by doctors from the VFF Medical Committee along with the club's doctor to gather more detailed information such as: the player's health, the types of supplements and beverages currently used at the club.
According to the regulations on doping tests and supplementary health checks for players issued by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) accompanying Decision No. 569/QD-LDBDVN dated August 19, 2024, players who violate doping test regulations; players who intentionally fail to comply with or cooperate with testing; and players whose test samples detect narcotics or addictive substances will be subject to disciplinary action and management as prescribed by the Law on Drug Prevention and Control; and will also be subject to additional disciplinary measures as per the VFF's disciplinary decision.
The entire doping test process and supplementary health checks comply with FIFA regulations, the World Anti-Doping Organization regulations, and relevant Vietnamese laws on anti-doping in sports , regulations on health checks for athletes, and regulations on drug and substance abuse prevention.
VPF, VFF, and the Institute of Criminal Science - Ministry of Public Security held a meeting to discuss the implementation of doping tests for players in the 2024-2025 season.
Each club will randomly select two players for testing.
This information was communicated to the clubs in April 2024. To ensure objectivity and transparency, the testing plan was only announced to the clubs 1-2 days before the match. Players to be tested for doping will be selected by random draw. Information about the players being tested will not be made public. Each club will randomly select 2 players for testing. The entire testing process will be carried out in a way that does not affect the training and competition of the teams. Players who violate the rules, intentionally fail to comply, or do not cooperate with the testing, or whose samples test positive for drugs or addictive substances, will be handled, managed, and disciplined according to VFF regulations.
Mr. Vo Van Hung, Deputy General Director of VPF Company and Head of the supplementary doping and health check team for the 2024-2025 season, stated: "VPF Company, the VFF Medical Committee, and the Institute of Criminal Science - Ministry of Public Security have held detailed meetings to discuss implementation plans. The working group consists of 8 personnel: 3 members from the VFF Medical Committee, 3 members from the Institute of Criminal Science - Ministry of Public Security, and 2 members from VPF. We have assigned specific tasks to each member to ensure the work is carried out according to plan. The supplementary doping and health check activities aim to ensure a doping-free football environment and the health safety of players."
In the 2023-2024 season, five players from Ha Tinh FC were prosecuted and sentenced to prison for drug use. This painful lesson will always be relevant to Vietnamese football. With decisive action from the VFF, VPF, and the Ministry of Public Security, the Vietnamese football environment will become cleaner.
