On January 6th, leaders of the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone People's Committee ( An Giang province) announced that they are implementing procedures to terminate the lease agreement for the Phu Quoc night market.
Accordingly, in September 2015, the Economic Department of Phu Quoc District (now the Economic, Infrastructure and Urban Planning Department of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone) signed an economic contract with Sea Star Tourism Joint Stock Company, leasing land to organize the Bach Dang pedestrian street and night market (Phu Quoc night market), for a period of 10 years, ending on December 31, 2025.
Following the direction of the Special Economic Zone People's Committee, the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Development was assigned to take the lead and coordinate with relevant units to liquidate contracts according to regulations; and to coordinate with businesses to survey and gather opinions from small traders.

On December 23, 2025, the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Development issued a notice requesting Sea Star Tourism Joint Stock Company to pay its outstanding debt for the last six months of 2025, amounting to over 337 million VND; and to hand over the entire leased land area in its current condition when the contract ends on December 31, 2025.
The Sea Star Tourism Joint Stock Company stated that the company has agreed to terminate the land lease contract in accordance with regulations.
Immediately after receiving notification from the authorities, the company informed the vendors, requesting them to pay rent up to December 31, 2025, and to remove their goods, tools, and equipment from the stalls.
According to business leaders, the pedestrian street and night market area in Phu Quoc has faced many shortcomings in recent times, such as the lack of a wastewater treatment system, with wastewater being discharged directly into the Duong Dong River, causing environmental pollution and affecting the urban landscape.
In addition, the area also faces issues related to traffic safety, fire prevention and control, and a lack of parking spaces.
