On December 9th, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the conference to announce the development plan for Ca Mau province for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
Also attending the conference were Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang; leaders of ministries, central agencies, and provinces in the Mekong Delta; representatives of a number of international agencies and organizations, and domestic and foreign businesses and investors.
The airport needs to be built so that Boeing aircraft can land.
At the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh commended Ca Mau province for its efforts in completing the provincial planning, connecting it with regional and national planning. He also reminded the province that once the planning is announced, it must be implemented effectively, with close supervision and inspection, timely and efficient adjustments, and without waiting or relying on others.
Ca Mau needs to leverage its potential advantages, innovate, and develop science and technology to improve the productivity and output of shrimp farming areas. In addition, it could also develop fertilizers and chemicals, as it has done before…
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the opening of a highway from North to South, extending all the way to Ca Mau Cape.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Ca Mau has many advantages that no other province possesses, but still lacks many things such as: incomplete transportation infrastructure and a shortage of high-quality labor. "Ca Mau lacks transportation infrastructure like other provinces in the Mekong Delta. The expressway must be built all the way to Dat Mui, absolutely. The inland waterway port and airport must have runways built as soon as possible so that Boeing aircraft can land; the seaport should be developed step by step, helping Ca Mau province to develop," Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh directed.
The Prime Minister stated that implementing the plan requires prioritizing what needs to be done first and what needs to be done later. Airports and highways must be built quickly, with a focus on investing in transportation infrastructure and clear policies and mechanisms to attract investment. Administrative procedures must be streamlined, and the attitude of public agencies and officials must be clean, ethical, and dedicated to serving the people.
Resolutely overcome difficulties.
According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee , Ca Mau has a favorable geographical and geopolitical location, but it remains the most disadvantaged province in the Mekong Delta region due to the severe impact of climate change, landslides, and land subsidence; its distance from major economic centers; and its weak transportation infrastructure.
According to Nguyen Tien Hai, Secretary of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, the province has implemented very specific and decisive solutions to overcome the difficulties.
Ca Mau is the only province in the region without a supplementary freshwater source from the Mekong River. "These are bottlenecks that have affected the socio-economic development of Ca Mau in recent years. The province has identified these difficulties, and the Resolution of the 16th Congress of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee, term 2020-2025, has outlined very specific and decisive solutions to overcome them," Mr. Hai shared.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh congratulated the businesses that received investment approval, investment registration certificates, and authorization to access, research, and survey projects from the local authorities.
On this occasion, Ca Mau province awarded investment registration certificates and investment approvals to domestic and foreign businesses investing in the province.
At the conclusion of the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with leaders of central ministries and agencies and leaders of Ca Mau province, surveyed the end point of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway; the Ca Mau airport runway expansion project; and visited the Ca Mau gas-electricity-fertilizer complex.
The Ca Mau Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, was approved by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha in Decision No. 1386/QD-TTg dated November 17, 2023.
According to the plan, by 2030, Ca Mau will become a moderately developed province in the Mekong Delta region; with a synchronous and progressively modernized infrastructure system; a workforce that meets development needs; and an ecosystem that is preserved and effectively adapted to climate change. National defense, security, and social order and safety will be ensured, and the people will enjoy a prosperous and happy life.
The province strives for an average economic growth rate (GRDP) of over 7.5% per year during the 2021-2030 period. The GRDP size in 2030 is projected to be 2-2.5 times that of 2020. The proportion of the fisheries, agriculture, and forestry sector is expected to be approximately 23%; industry and construction approximately 36.5%; services approximately 37%; and product taxes less product subsidies approximately 3.5%.
By 2050, Ca Mau aims to be a province with a developed economy, a civilized and modern society, and resilience to climate change; cultural values reflecting the unique identity of the people of Ca Mau will be preserved and promoted; the ecological environment and biodiversity will be protected and conserved; socio-economic infrastructure and digital infrastructure will be developed synchronously and modernly; and politics, national defense, and security will be maintained, with social order and safety ensured.
