Heavy rains and rising floodwaters have submerged many sections of the railway line in Thua Thien Hue province, forcing six passenger trains to stop and wait at stations along the route.
Affected by a cold front and easterly winds at high altitudes, Thua Thien Hue province experienced very heavy rain. At over 10 am this morning, the North-South railway line passing through Van Xa station in Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province, was submerged in floodwaters. The strong currents overflowed the tracks, forcing the closure of the Van Xa - Hien Sy section of the railway.
Also this morning, heavy rain damaged several infrastructure locations such as railway bridges and tunnel number 8 on the Thua Luu - Lang Co route. Some sections of the railway tracks were flooded with 20-30 cm of water, forcing the closure of this section, according to Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company.
By 10:00 AM, the Thua Luu - Lang Co section was reopened, allowing trains to pass at a speed of 5 km/h. In some locations, the water level still covered the top of the rails by about 8 cm.

The Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company reported that at Hai Van station, the embankment behind the station had collapsed. The sand and mortar layer of the embankment had been washed away by the water flow onto the railway tracks and through Hai Van station.
Thanks to the 0.5-meter-thick concrete retaining walls, trains are still running safely through Hai Van station and the pass summit. The Quang Nam - Da Nang Railway Joint Stock Company has sent personnel to monitor the situation and remove sand to create a downstream flow. However, the Hai Van North - Lang Co section of the railway line is threatened by falling rocks, so it has to be closed.
According to Vietnam Railways Corporation, as of noon today, six passenger trains (SE1/2, SE3/4, SE6, and SE19) are still stopped, waiting for the railway line to be cleared at Hien Sy, Dong Ha, and Da Nang stations.
Meanwhile, according to the Road Management Area II, sections of National Highway 1, National Highway 49B through Thua Thien Hue province, and National Highway 49C through Quang Tri province were flooded to a depth of 0.5 meters, causing traffic congestion from early morning.
This afternoon, many vehicles were diverted to National Highway 1 bypass around Hue or the Cam Lo - Tuy Loan expressway. The La Son - Tuy Loan expressway connecting Da Nang and Thua Thien Hue also experienced landslides in some sections, but it was not closed, and traffic was slow.
Heavy rain combined with floodwaters from the upper reaches of the Perfume River flowing rapidly caused flooding in Hue City and many districts and towns in the province since last night. The provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai also experienced heavy rain earlier, causing localized flooding and landslides on some roads.
