FaceID is Apple's security technology, using the TrueDepth camera and selfie camera of the iPhone to recognize faces. According to DigiTimes, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models will have these lenses replaced with new metallized lenses.

The advantage of metals is their ultra-small size and ability to absorb polarized light for image recognition. With this technology, FaceID hidden under the screen will soon become a reality.
The use of metallized film allows for a compact camera without compromising image quality. Previously, there were reports that metallized film, developed by Apple's partners ViesEra and Asia Optical, would be used in Apple Glass virtual reality glasses.
The iPhone 16 series, expected to launch in September, will feature a dedicated shutter button with force-sensitive technology on the right edge. While the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will retain the same screen size, the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be larger, equipped with the A18 chip, upgraded cameras, and support for Wi-Fi 7 and 5G Advance connectivity.
