FaceID is Apple's security technology, using the TrueDepth camera and the iPhone's selfie camera to recognize faces. According to information from DigiTimes, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models will have these lenses replaced with new metalens lenses.
The advantage of metalens is its ultra-small size and ability to absorb polarized light for image recognition. With this technology, FaceID hidden under the screen will soon become a reality.
Using metalens helps the camera to be compact without compromising image quality. Previously, there was a source saying that metalens developed by Apple's partners ViesEra and Asia Optical will be used on Apple Glass virtual reality glasses.
The iPhone 16 series, expected to launch in September, will have a dedicated shutter button with force-sensing technology on the right side. While the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will keep the same screen size, the 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max will be larger, equipped with the A18 chip, upgraded cameras, and support for Wifi 7 and 5G Advance connectivity.
