Computer manufacturer Framework has announced a further price increase for its laptop lines. This decision comes just one week after the most recent price hike, due to the sharp rise in the cost of DDR5 RAM on the global market.

Pressure from global component shortages

Framework explains that the price increase for laptops is a natural consequence of the soaring price of DDR5 RAM amid a global memory supply shortage. The company asserts that this is a cost transfer from the supplier to the product, rather than an attempt to increase profits.

A company representative also warned that further price adjustments may be necessary if the situation remains unstable. However, Framework committed to implementing price reductions as soon as input component costs cool down and return to normal levels.

Unexpected advice for customers

In a rare move for computer manufacturers, Framework has proactively encouraged buyers to source and purchase RAM modules from external suppliers if they can find a cheaper price. This helps customers save significant costs at a time when the price of complete computer systems is rising.

With its philosophy of allowing users to assemble and upgrade components themselves (DIY), Framework continues to support customers in personalizing their devices according to their financial needs, even when the component supply chain is facing difficulties.
