Episode 12 of Friendly Rivalry opens with everyone discovering Ye-ri's connection to Tae-jun. Ye-ri explains that her family went bankrupt, leaving her in dire straits and forcing her to live in a goshiwon (small boarding house) for a long time. Seul-gi thanks Ye-ri for honestly sharing the truth.

Meanwhile, Byeong-jin, now part of the group, realizes that Je-yi is the one controlling the drug market. He suspects one of his girls, Su-jin, sold the fake cards he used to buy prescription drugs for Je-na.

At that moment, they discovered Je-na was dead. Je-yi and Seul-gi went to Seul-gi's father's hospital to identify the body. It appeared she had jumped off a cliff to commit suicide, making her face unrecognizable. However, Seul-gi noticed a yellow-painted fingernail and a scar on the body's leg, which aroused her suspicion.

At the same time, Byeong-jin sneaked into Je-na's hospital room and found the fake ID cards he had hidden.

Following Je-na's death, Seul-gi remains haunted. Meanwhile, Choi Gyeong receives an opportunity to pursue a career in medicine, on the condition that she maintains her image as a model student, especially since both Je-yi and Seul-gi are embroiled in investigations.

To protect her reputation, Choi Gyeong secretly entered the CCTV room, where Ye-ri caught her deleting footage of her at school after class. At the same time, she revealed that Choi Gyeong had witnessed Je-na and Seul-gi's father having sex but had remained silent.

Elsewhere, Je-yi has nightmares about killing her older sister. Seul-gi visits and finds her in a depressed state, blaming herself for her sister's death.

Determined to uncover the truth, Seul-gi begins to follow Su-jin. In a flashback, she recalls seeing a scar on Su-jin's leg after she was bullied. Remembering the identical scar on what was believed to be Je-na's body, Seul-gi resolves to verify her hypothesis. She meets someone from Su-jin's rehabilitation center, who directs her to Su-jin's goshiwon (a small, unoccupied house).

Meanwhile, Ye-ri and Choi Gyeong investigate the school's medical lab. They recall Je-na being last seen there on the school festival day. The lab, connected to Tae-jun's medical center, contains a clue—a piece of paper with the goshiwon address, room key, and room number.

Meanwhile, Seul-gi arrives at Su-jin's goshiwon (a type of apartment) and learns that she is dead. The landlord found her dead in her room and is worried about the remaining rent. Seul-gi also discovers that someone has paid Su-jin's rent and debts.

Seul-gi then reunites with Ye-ri and Choi Gyeong, and the trio enters Je-na's room, which is filled with answers to math problems. The episode ends with Seul-gi noticing a locked diary and deciding to break it open.
