Fuel prices surge.

From 3 PM on May 15th, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline increased by 403 VND/liter; RON95-III gasoline increased by 415 VND/liter. In addition, diesel fuel increased by 419 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 285 VND/liter and mazut increased by 627 VND/kg.

On the afternoon of May 15th, domestic fuel prices reversed course and rose, while the price stabilization fund remained stable.

According to a joint decision by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, from 3 PM, the ceiling price for E5RON92 gasoline will be 19,180 VND/liter, an increase of 403 VND/liter compared to the current price; the new price for RON95-III gasoline will be 19,594 VND/liter, an increase of 415 VND/liter compared to the current price.

In this price adjustment period, diesel increased by 419 VND/liter, reaching 17,228 VND/liter; kerosene increased by 285 VND/liter, with the new price being 17,226 VND/liter; and fuel oil increased by 627 VND, reaching 16,160 VND/kg.

During this price adjustment period, the inter-ministerial committee did not allocate or utilize the Price Stabilization Fund for petroleum products. Regarding the Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex), prior to the price adjustment, the balance of the Price Stabilization Fund (BOG) at the company was 3,083 billion VND, an increase of 1 billion VND compared to the most recent announcement.

Previously, gasoline prices had decreased twice in a row. Most recently (on May 8th), E5 RON92 gasoline decreased by 377 VND/liter; RON95-III gasoline decreased by 407 VND/liter; diesel decreased by 550 VND/liter; kerosene decreased by 623 VND/liter; and fuel oil decreased by 665 VND/kg.

According to Decree No. 80/2023/ND-CP amending and supplementing a number of articles of Decree No. 95/2021/ND-CP dated November 1, 2021 and Decree No. 83/2014/ND-CP dated September 3, 2014 of the Government on petroleum business, the period for adjusting petroleum prices will be shortened from 10 days to 7 days, to be implemented every Thursday.

In cases where the price adjustment period coincides with a public holiday, the following procedures apply: If Thursday falls on the first day of a public holiday, the fuel price adjustment will be implemented on the Wednesday immediately preceding the holiday. If Thursday falls on any other public holiday, the fuel price adjustment will be implemented on the first working day following the holiday.
