World oil prices reversed course and rose again today as investors weighed the outcome of negotiations between the US President and the Ukrainian President on an agreement to end the conflict in Ukraine.
World oil prices
Oil prices rose in Asian trading on the morning of December 30, as investors worried that escalating tensions in the Middle East could disrupt supply.
Meanwhile, although the Russia-Ukraine peace talks have shown some positive signs, major obstacles over territorial issues are still holding back market expectations for a definitive solution.

Yang An, an analyst at Haitong Futures, believes the main reason for the price rebound is the continued high level of geopolitical tension. Russia and Ukraine continued their attacks on each other's energy infrastructure over the weekend. At the same time, the Middle East is becoming increasingly unstable with Saudi Arabian airstrikes in Yemen and strong statements from Iran regarding the US, Europe, and Israel.
Diplomatically , following their meeting in Florida, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy indicated they were moving closer to an agreement to end the conflict. However, both leaders acknowledged that some of the most contentious details remained unresolved.
Tony Sycamore, an expert from IG, forecasts that WTI oil prices will remain in the range of $55-60 per barrel. According to him, the market is focusing on the tightening of US regulations on Venezuelan supplies – notably the control of 1.9 million barrels of oil by mid-December 2025 – along with security uncertainties in key producing regions of Nigeria, which currently supplies approximately 1.5 million barrels per day.
