"Continuing the Story of Peace," composed by Nguyen Van Chung two years ago, is now becoming a social media phenomenon. The song has been used as background music in over 140,000 videos on short video platforms.
The phenomenon known as "Continuing the Story of Peace" exploded when Vo Ha Tram and Dong Hung performed the song at the parade celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) in Ho Chi Minh City. The song "Continuing the Story of Peace" touched the hearts of audiences of all generations with its beautiful melody and lyrics. "So that the country may be peaceful from then on / So that the red color of the flag of freedom may shine brightly / So that laughter may resound everywhere from the day of victory / Join me in continuing to write the story of peace / To see the homeland bright and radiant in the dawn / To see the sunlight shining brightly as the national flag flutters in the wind" The lyrics instill in young audiences a sense of pride and gratitude towards the older generation, those who were willing to sacrifice their youth to preserve peace for the nation.
Composer Nguyen Van Chung shared: "For a composer, having a song chosen to be performed during a major national celebration is a great source of happiness. In Ho Chi Minh City alone, the song will be performed six times that day, not to mention artistic performances in other provinces."
This is the first time I've experienced such a feeling, so it's hard to put into words. I feel happier than anything else than having a hit song, and above all, proud that this song is loved by people of all ages and backgrounds, from adults to teenagers, students, and children, from government agencies and organizations to schools and companies...
"In over 20 years of working in this profession, this is the first time I've felt this way—both happy and honored."
Before Vo Ha Tram and Dong Hung performed the song at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and National Reunification on April 30th, the song was performed by singer Duyen Quynh.
Composer Nguyen Van Chung said that in 2023, while working on an album about his homeland, he composed "Continuing the Story of Peace." "The song revisits pages of history, evoking gratitude and thereby inspiring the younger generation to contribute to building a more prosperous and beautiful country, worthy of the sacrifices of our ancestors."
Nguyen Van Chung admitted that in the early days of releasing "Continuing the Story of Peace," he and Duyen Quynh faced difficulties in spreading the song because "young audiences prefer themes of romantic love."
"But I've been very lucky throughout my music career, for example, 'Mother's Diary' became famous because of the sand painting segment. This song is the same. The song met a young producer and he remixed it into a 45-second version. That segment went viral with young audiences. It's like a stream of water being unblocked," Nguyen Van Chung expressed.
"I feel incredibly moved and proud. This joy is greater than the joy of having a hit song, because this song has transcended the boundaries of a hit song; it has been recognized and loved by many audiences of different ages, professions, and fields, including officials, soldiers, and others who share the same Vietnamese blood and a fervent love for their country. I am happy to have contributed such a meaningful work to everyone, especially to the youth."
When asked about the image he particularly cherishes in this song, composer Nguyen Van Chung shared a very touching moment: "It's the last line: 'Looking at the bright sunlight shining on the national flag fluttering in the wind.'"
He added: "I think the spread of the song's message is meaningful not only on this occasion but also in the future because it inspires young people and motivates them to contribute."
When asked about the remix being more popular than the original, Nguyen Van Chung expressed: "This is a reality I have to adapt to and accept with the current flow of music. Personally, I don't like remixes; I prefer ballads with gentle emotions. But I can't deny that many young people like remixes, and that's their trend. That musical taste reflects their dynamism. As a songwriter, wanting my songs to reach a wider young audience, I have to learn and adapt. I always want to learn more to keep up with the flow of music."
Singer Duyen Quynh, the winner of "The Love Storyteller 2019," said she is proud and happy that "Continuing the Story of Peace" has been loved and supported by audiences of all professions and ages. This is considered the first step in her career journey, helping the 9X singer stay true to the path she has chosen - spreading positive energy and love to everyone.
